Our business
The Internal Audit Department provides the Board of Directors, senior management and regulators with an independent assessment of JPMorgan Chase's (‘JPMC’) control environment. Audit works closely with the Lines of Business (‘LOBs’) and their support functions to achieve its mission through the execution of a comprehensive audit program designed to test the effectiveness of the controls in place to mitigate the risks inherent in each business. The department is respected throughout the firm for the calibre of the staff and their ability to add value beyond the audit opinion. Globally, Internal Audit has in excess of 1,000 auditors.
The individual will be responsible for leading and managing the J.P. Morgan Bank Luxembourg (“JPMBL”) Audit function and assessing the adequacy of the control environment across JPMBL. The Head of JPMBL Audit position, which is based in Luxembourg, is part of the EMEA Group Audit team. The individual will predominately be expected to define the annual audit plan and risk assessments, prepare Audit reporting for Audit Committee and Governance Forums, oversee execution of individual audits across the Corporate and Investment Bank, Investor Services, Treasury Services, and Corporate functions within the location, and manage the performance of all direct reports. Further, the individual will be expected to develop relationships with key stakeholders across these areas in the location and within the network of EMEA Group Audit.
The individual must be a seasoned and experienced professional, possess strong project and people management skills, have relationship management capabilities and audit experience to some of the above businesses, as well as having a strong understanding of the Luxembourg and European regulatory, industry and audit landscape.
Key responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and drive all aspects of audit activities including defining the annual audit plan and risk assessments and audit plan execution.
  • Manager and coordinate responses to external requests from regulators and/ or external auditors.
  • Input to the strategic vision and footprint of the Audit department of JPMBL, including consideration of changing regulatory, audit practice and industry standards and expectations.
  • Participate in and input to audit engagements from planning to reporting, and deliver quality products within department and professional standards. Execute audit testing on individual audits of the above business and control functions.
  • Effectively partner with colleagues within the Audit team across the region and globally.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with stakeholders, establishing a culture of engagement while adding value.
  • Execute an effective program of continuous monitoring activities, including analysis of key metrics to identify control issues and adverse trends, and keeping abreast of key initiatives and pertinent industry and regulatory developments.
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving industry and regulatory changes impacting the location and its control environment.
  • Demonstrate competency in risk based audit approach, independently evaluating, testing and reporting on the adequacy and effectiveness of controls, as well as identifying the root cause of issues.
  • Communicate audit findings in a clear and concise manner and identify opportunities for improvement in the design and effectiveness of key controls. Use judgment to provide an overall opinion on the control environment.
  • Present the results of audit work to the Audit management, local stakeholders and risk and control forums.
  • Manage audit personnel, perform timely review of work performed and provide honest and constructive feedback
  • Employ computer-assisted auditing tools where applicable to maximize the efficiency of sampling and to reduce the risk of fraud and identify opportunities for the use of continuous monitoring and automated auditing.
  • Leadership - Ability to assess priorities, adapt to a changing environment, monitor progress and timely deliver a high quality end product. Demonstrable audit project and people management skills. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective under pressure and willing to take personal responsibility/accountability. Demonstrates capability to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically.
  • Business and Industry Knowledge – demonstrable knowledge and experience of performing audit work across the above referenced businesses as well as corporate functions.
  • Methodology & Analytical Skills – detailed understanding of internal control and risk assessment concepts and strong analytical skills to assess the impact of control weaknesses.
  • Communication - Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive manner.
  • Accountability – proven ability to support the development of the scope and execution of audits/ projects. Seeks ways to increase efficiency and effectiveness of work performed. Willing to take personal responsibility/accountability.  Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Partnership - Strong execution skills, ability to work predominately independently with limited supervision. Works well individually and in teams, shares information, and supports colleagues. Ability to create stakeholder relationships that promote transparency and open dialogue around control issues.
Essential skills
  • Knowledge of applicable Luxembourg and European regulatory requirements.
  • Education to degree standard (or equivalent) in an Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline is preferred.
  • Preferably with previous audit experience in Investment Bank or Corporate Sector functions.
  • Recognized Audit qualification is desirable although not mandatory.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in an efficient and effective manner and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French/German, with the ability to present complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive manner.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, strong interest in learning, effective under pressure and willing to take personal responsibility/accountability.
