As a software developer in the Investment Bank Technology area based in Glasgow, you will be a member of a wider team focused on the delivery of the Strategic Architecture for SCPP (Securities Platform). This includes Data Capture, Warehousing and Reporting within the context of a strong Data Architecture methodology. The Warehouse will provide MIS to help drive the business and track client profitability. You will work closely with colleagues and the business to understand both functional and non-functional requirements, and then help drive the design and implementation of well tested, easily supportable, scalable and robust solutions.  

 

You must be an experienced developer with a proven track record of hands on delivery.  You will have detailed knowledge of the development of relational databases and providing Business Intelligence solutions utilizing Oracle and Java. Experience with modern Data Warehousing technologies such as Hadoop as well as cloud native development practices and exposure to AWS would be an advantage.

 

The role also offers the opportunity to manage a team of developers within a fast moving agile development environment

 

The right candidate will:


  • Within 30 days be fully tooled up and up to speed with the code line; development practices and organization structure
  • After 60 days will understand the system architecture and design and be able to lead strategic technical discussions with SME’s across multiple geographies
  • Within 90 days be well versed in our end to end SDLC process and able to help skill up/onboard less experienced developers
  • At the 6 month mark a successful candidate will be deeply involved in designing and building out the SCPP platform and will function independently


Essential:

  • Extensive Java development experience with J2EE, Spring or similar frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience on Oracle; PL/SQL development, and SQL performance tuning
  • Experience designing warehouses/data marts
  • Experience with Linux shell scripting
  • Good understanding of data structures, algorithms & multi-threaded programming
  • Experience in building reusable services
  • Proven track record in application delivery


Roles and responsibilities

  • Delivery of software on time and on budget, based on original scope & requirements
  • Designing software and producing scalable and resilient technical designs
  • Digesting and understanding Business Requirements and designing new modules/functionality to meet those needs
  • Creating Automated Unit Tests using Flexible/Open Source Frameworks using a Test Driven Development approach
  • Partner with supporting tech leads to develop realistic and achievable project estimates
  • Analysis and build within Control, Stability, Resiliency, Capacity & Performance areas
  • Testing: Unit, SIT & UAT planning and management
  • Robust delivery of code into the production environment
  • Take part in decisions affecting long range organizational goals & strategic planning.
  • Proactively look to develop, implement and further development best practices across the group. The areas of focus should include, but not be limited to quality improvement, code reviews, code/architecture standards, code reuse, and reduction of support calls, technical documentation and technical design specification
