The Lead Architect will work across teams within WM Onboarding, Trade and Controls as well as the broader Wealth Management organization. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that technical solutions are in-line with industry best practices, the firm’s technology standards and strategic direction. The candidate will work closely with the Account Opening and KYC development teams to help with the strategic technology vision, design, development and delivery of the Strategic Onboarding platform. In addition, the candidate will participate in the evaluation and have input into the selection of innovative solutions using emerging technologies.  This role will be hands on and will require at least 25% of time spent on development.






  • Provide oversight and architectural direction across the multiple global development teams contributing to Strategic Onboarding technology initiatives. 

  • Work with broader Lead Design Authority and Onboarding Design Authority, communicate and promote technology and architecture standards among development teams within and business teams within the covered space.  The Onboarding area is adopting a set of modern, developer-centric technologies and techniques; participating in the design and evolution of the platform will be a key aspect of the role.

  • Participate in design and development process ensuring the solutions are properly designed and implemented according to the specification and best practice

  • Work with the program and delivery teams to define and rationalize technology and delivery roadmaps.

  • Understand the system architecture and functionality and assess solutions for user requests

  •  Hands on full stack development using a modern technology stack. Knowledge and experience of Java, reactive programming, message and actor based architectures, responsive interface design and both relational and non-relational database platforms.  

  • Provide support with development of complex implementations

  • Documentation which may include architecture diagrams, interfaces design, workflow, data modelling, and dataflow representation.

  • Research and evaluate new/emerging technologies/tools and software products in tandem with the LDA to determine feasibility and desirability of incorporating their capabilities in alignment with the technology strategy of the organization

  • Assist in project activities such as planning, resource assignments and project tracking as requested by managers



  • MS/MSc degree in Engineering and/or Computer Science or related work experience required

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in software engineering including 5+ years of technical experience in the architecture, design and development of various applications utilizing a wide range of technologies and vendor platforms

  • Strong knowledge of architectural principles, frameworks, design patterns and industry best practices for design and development

  • 5+ years’ current experience in Java/JVM and cloud technologies including: Spring Cloud, JPA/Hibernate, REST (JAX-RS), GraphQL, JMS, Cloud Foundry, DC/OS. Experience in actor-based systems such as Akka and functional languages are desirable although not essential.

  • Experience with UI technologies, notably Angular 4, JavaScript/Typescript and related technologies

  • Experience with mobile technologies and cross platform mobile development

  • Experience in Business Process Management and Rules Engine solutions

  • Working experience with relational database and NoSQL (both graph and document) database technologies

  • Experience working in a Global organization with cross regional development teams

  • Practical experience working on projects using an Agile methodology, SAFe experience a plus

  • Ability to conduct technical reviews (architecture, design, code)

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to speak contextually to different audiences (Business / Technology / Project / Sr Mgmt. / etc.)

  • Experience in mentoring and coaching developers

  • Prior hands-on experience utilizing DevOps practices

  • Experience with emerging technologies such as machine learning, biometrics, or robotics a plus
