The SAR QA Team within the Compliance organization is centrally managed and conducts sample reviews of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) filed and cases closed by the Firms’ SAR filing units. The primary purpose of the QA review is to ensure SAR filing quality by reviewing and testing SARs against Financial Crime Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and internal standards and ensuring cases closed have appropriate rationale documented to support a non-SAR filing.
The SAR QA Associate will be responsible for analyzing SARs filed and cases closed by the Firm’s filing unit investigators, ensuring quality and sufficient rationale are evident in the SAR/case. The Candidate will identify and document issues to management who will in turn provide feedback to the filing units.
The Candidate should have the ability to analyze sensitive, complex investigations with large amounts of data and conclude that all pertinent information was parlayed into the SAR, validating all information entered was accurate. For cases closed without a SAR filing, the Candidate should be able to analyze the case comments and details and appropriately disposition by utilizing analytical skills and research work. The Candidate will operate under the supervision of the Compliance Manager and may receive guidance from Senior Compliance Management.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
• Interpretation of SAR QA standards, guidelines, policies and procedures
• Based on interpretation of FinCEN, Filing Unit and SAR QA standards, make risk based determination through quality analysis whether cases were properly closed by filing unit investigators
• Ensure data and information related to SARs has been accurately collected and documented, including but not limited to:
• Any relevant account and transaction data
• Customer demographics
• Analysis and detection of process defects
• Cause and effect of defects
• Recommend solutions and/or corrective action to repair defects
• Assurance of overall quality, accuracy, and compliance with tier one process and procedure
• Review of all discrepancies or newly discovered trends with QA Managers in SAR QA for proper disposition and potential amendment to procedure
• Forge relationships and points of contact with members of the QA team and SAR Filing Units
• Effectively communicate with key points of contact to ensure the fluid sharing of information and feedback across pertinent teams
• Participation in development of production and quality goals
• Meet or Exceed set production and quality goals
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality throughout the QA process, disclosing only pertinent information to key stakeholders
• 2-4 years of experience conducting AML investigations, SAR filings and analysis and review of financial transactions across multiple lines of business
• Expertise may also include: Audit, Control, Risk, Fraud, and Research
• Strong research, analytical and comprehension skills, with ability to analyze large amounts of data
• Proven ability identifying key risk factors and issues/defects and recommending solutions
• Demonstrated experience adhering to controls and compliance standards
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Forensic Accounting, Criminal Justice (focusing on financial crime) or equivalent work experience
• Working knowledge of AML and Fraud typologies, and FinCEN, BSA and PATRIOT ACT statutes
• Strong Communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal
• Strong analytical and research skills
• Results-oriented Team Player
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines against a high volume work schedule
• Must be detail oriented, well organized, and a self starter
• Intermediate level skills working with the MS Office suite of tools with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
• Working knowledge of MS SharePoint
