Operational Risk Oversight (ORO) is an independent oversight function regarded as the 2nd Line of Defense that proactively identifies, assesses, and oversees the mitigation of Operational Risks.
The Corporate & Investment Bank Operational Risk Oversight (CIB ORO) team is responsible for independently assessing, reviewing and overseeing the management of Operational Risk (OR) by Line of Business and Functional Groups. The ORO Officer will oversee OR strategy and framework for Latin America covering locations, business lines and functions and will also ensure there is clear understanding of residual risk profiles, remedial strategies and the link to operational risk capital.
The successful candidate will join a small team of risk professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience who collectively ensure that the Firm’s Operational Risk Governance Framework (ORGF) is implemented and functions effectively.
Role Responsibilities
  • Location Oversight for LatAm countries
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to facilitate open information and ensure the operational risk function remains aware of business change relevant to risk decision making and a trusted advisor through counsel and challenge
  • Proactively drive identification, assessment, measurement, mitigation and monitoring of operational risk through consumption of information from Control Forums/Committees and the effective deployment of Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), scenario analysis, event management (recording, trend analysis) and targeted risk assessments.
  • Promote and instill strong culture of Operational Risk Management (ORM) and operational excellence, partner with the business to continually improve operational risk processes and business operating models supporting safe business growth and informing risk related decision-making
  • Work closely with Oversight and Control team to ensure OR Standards are understood and applied consistently - review adherence to ORGF, governance, standards, policies & framework across LOBs, functions and countries
  • Independent challenge of RCSA and business risk profiles, providing constructive challenge to the business where residual risk levels are deemed to exceed appetite
  • Stay abreast of industry news and regulatory developments to facilitate a more proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation. Review root cause analysis on internal operational risk events and those that occurred externally in the industry
  • Facilitate scenario analysis to stress the control environment under simulated conditions, assess potential events and drive accurate capital allocations and inputs
  • Coordinate with other risk and control functions, leveraging internal audit and external reviews to develop a complete and aggregated view of risk
  • Liaise with regulators in respect of ORGF matters

Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a good high-level understanding of the various CIB businesses, a strong risk and controls mind-set, excellent operational, management and coordination skills, superior attention to detail and a desire to build a robust, flexible, sustainable structure around new and undefined processes.
Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills across all levels of experience and seniority.
An existing theoretical and practical knowledge of Operational Risk Management is an advantage but not essential.
Candidates with working knowledge of Wholesale Banking are preferred. Applicants with Audit or Consulting experience are also welcomed.
