Overview:
The Treasury and the Chief Investment Office (TCIO) within JPMorgan manages the balance sheet of one of the world’s largest global financial institutions with more than $2.5 trillion in assets and liabilities, including more than $800 billion in loans and $1.3 trillion in deposits. Because it sits at the very center of the firm, TCIO directly influences the composition of the firm’s balance sheet as well the activities of the firm’s four main lines of business (LOBs): Asset & Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Corporate & Investment Bank, and Consumer & Community Banking.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Deploying the firm’s excess liquidity
  • Managing the firm’s funding and liabilities
  • Aggregating and managing the structural interest rate and foreign exchange risk of JPMorgan’s main businesses
  • Managing the firm’s liquidity risk and its regulatory compliance

The analyst will join the program management team responsible for multi-year initiatives designed to develop and continually improve the way the Firm measures, monitors, and reports structural interest rate risk. Examples of initiatives include sourcing more robust data for the risk calculation process, enhancing reporting granularity (to enable risk reporting by currency, country, legal entity, etc.), and enhancing system capabilities to increase the number of scenarios reported (calculating risk results under different economic environments).

The team’s primary location is Jersey City, NJ with partner teams in North America (NYC, Jersey City, Delaware), Europe (London) and Asia (Hong Kong).
Responsibilities:

The analyst will be exposed to the full lifecycle of process improvement and change management by working on different projects. This role is analytical in nature, requiring the analyst to perform data analyses to identify issues, and requires strong problem solving skills and out-of-the-box thinking in order to solve those issues.
  • Developing knowledge and experience in structural interest rate risk, including the different risk calculations, models, and assumptions used to measure the risk. This includes learning about different banking products (e.g., deposits, loans, credit cards) and their impact to the Firm's risk profile
  • Assisting senior team members with different projects. Analyst will receive various project sub-components to work on independently
  • Working closely with different stakeholders across Front Office, Middle Office, Risk Management, Technology, etcetera to understand, document, and evaluate current processes. This will involve conducting interviews with key persons, performing data analyses, and creating process maps in Microsoft Visio
  • Recommending potential solutions to issues and opportunities for process improvement based on analytical conclusions
  • Collecting and writing requirements for new processes and changes; working with Technology to build out technical solutions
  • Testing technical solutions and new processes to ensure that they are developed and built appropriately per requirements

Qualifications:
  • Six or more months experience in financial operations and a basic understanding of asset and liability or balance sheet management principles.
  • Solid technical skills (particularly in MS Excel). Knowledge of VBA, SQL or Tableau a plus.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills to effectively explain identified issues and recommended solutions
  • Strong collaboration skills to effectively work with different teams and different levels of management
  • Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills, and ability to multitask, in order to handle a variety of different responsibilities at the same time
  • Must possess a high degree of initiative, motivation, and problem solving skills to appropriately understand a recommend solutions to potential issues
  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Math or other quantitative field.
