Executive Director - Assistant General Counsel
This position is part of the APAC Litigation/Employment Law Team and will support Human Resources/Employee Relations in the India Global Service Center (GSC), reporting to the APAC Head of Employment Law with a local reporting line into the Head of Legal for the India GSC. 
This position will assist Human Resources professionals and business managers in the India GSC to navigate employment law issues that impact human resources decisions and people strategies. The position supports all lines of business across the India GSC.  Responsibilities include:
  • Handling civil litigation matters (directly and through outside counsel);
  • Advising on any issues relating to claims of discrimination, sexual harassment or retaliation;  
  • Advising on issues such as compensation, benefits, performance management, training, staffing;  discipline and discrimination/harassment;
  • Guiding/leading employee investigations, including police-related matters;
  • Drafting and reviewing HR policies, agreements and other legal documentation;
  • Monitoring developments in laws and regulations;
  • Training HR and business managers on best practices;
  • Managing employment law aspects of projects.
Qualified/licensed lawyer with 7-10 years of recent employment advisory and employment litigation experience; advice and counseling experience in a major law firm, large multi-national corporation or equivalent;
  • Experience handling a full range of labor and employment issues in India;
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills;
  • Strong organizational/project management skills, ability to handle high volume and balance competing demands;
  • Ability to develop and maintain solid client relationships and to influence decision makers at all levels;
  • Confidence and experience translating complex legal concepts into practical solutions to guide HR professionals and business people;
  • Ability to work successfully in a matrixed, team environment;
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits and tax/social insurance issues
  • Knowledge of current employment-related regulatory requirements relating to multi-national financial institutions and BPOs;
  • Employment law experience with large financial services institutions;
  • In-house employment law experience
