The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented attorney with at least 5 years of relevant experience to join the JPMorgan Chase & Co. IP, Technology & Privacy Law Group.  This attorney will primarily focus on supporting the firm’s Cybersecurity organization and will report directly to an Executive Director / Assistant General Counsel in the Intellectual Property, Technology & Privacy Practice Group.  The role will be based in New York.
The IP, Technology & Privacy Law Group consists of legal professionals who provide legal support for the firm’s technology and other transactions, intellectual property management, third party provider oversight, risk and controls, and sourcing and procurement operations.  This group is entrepreneurial and innovative in structuring transactions in a way to seek maximum benefit for JPMorgan Chase.  This group works closely with the end client, serving as a valuable business partner in addressing risks expeditiously and achieving the client’s goals within the parameters of JPMorgan Chase policy and procedure.
The candidate will primarily:
  • Provide technology and cyber legal advice and counsel to internal clients (e.g., Global Cybersecurity, Line of Business Technology, Global Security & Investigations) and partners (e.g., line of business Legal, M&A Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Risk, Controls);
  • Participate in and advise on cybersecurity and privacy legal issues as part of firm-wide strategic initiatives;
  • Support lines of businesses and corporate functions (e.g., IT/sourcing) in relation to cybersecurity and privacy requirements for transactional agreements;
  • Draft and negotiate agreements with vendors and clients;
  • Contribute legal input as part of development of policies by compliance and control functions for cyber- and privacy-related issues;
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in cybersecurity and data privacy (e.g., the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015) and collaborate to share and acquire know-how with relevant local country functions;
  • Support development of cybersecurity and privacy legal know-how within the firm and contribute to the firm's cybersecurity knowledge repositories; and
  • Assist in the identification and mitigation data security issues and risks.
  • 5+ years of relevant transactional, cybersecurity, and/or privacy experience in a law firm or corporate law department
  • Must be in compliance with NY attorney licensing requirements before starting in the role
  • In-house experience in the financial services industry and/or technology industry desirable
  • Experience advising on large, complex, multi-line of business, regulated client organizations desirable
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, privacy, third and fourth party contracting, outsourcing, offshoring, contracting and related regulatory and risk environments desirable
  • Experience working closely with compliance and controls personnel desirable
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Strong business judgment and strategic thinking
  • Flexibility and organizational ability to simultaneously manage various transactions and projects in a high-performance environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
