European Product Development:  Product Documentation Specialist –Vice President (based in London)


European Product Development and Documentation


The European Product Development and Documentation team is responsible for developing and managing the documentation of JPMorgan Asset Management's Pan-European open-ended domiciled fund ranges which comprise more than fifteen  umbrella structures, 260 funds, and more than 2,400 active share classes, which are registered in 36 countries globally with AUM in excess of $280 billion.


The team is structured into three core functions:  Product Development, Product Documentation and Strategic Initiatives and Product Line Management.  


Key activities of the team include:

Product Development:

  • Facilitate cross-functional working groups to develop business cases for new product ideas and evaluate significant changes and enhancements to existing funds
  • Review competitor offerings, offering technical insight, to facilitate the development of new product ideas in partnership with the broader Strategic Product Management team

  • Scope prioritized product ideas which include both new product ideas and enhancements/changes to existing funds, and mergers/liquidations of funds to facilitate review and approval through appropriate governance forums, including fund boards and regulators

  • Bring new funds to market and implement changes to existing funds, managing across all functions within the business

Product Documentation

  • In full partnership with product developers, produce market leading documentation that considers all legal, regulatory and technical issues
  • Maintain consistency and quality across prospectuses through a robust quality control and oversight process that includes partnership with internal and external counsel

  • Strategic oversight of global changes to the prospectuses and offering documents for all funds domiciled in Europe (excluding certain alternative products)

Strategic Initiatives and Product Line Management

  • Oversee and deliver the ongoing optimisation of the product range in partnership with the broader Strategic Product Management team
  • Define naming and pricing conventions, share class strategy and capacity management
  • Assess the impact and manage the implementation of regulatory change across EMEA

Reporting to a Product Development Team Leader, the Product Documentation Specialists are an integral part of the European Product Development team and are responsible for providing legal and drafting support with respect to the establishment and ongoing maintenance of the European-domiciled fund complex. Product Documentation Specialists are typically aligned to specific investment desk teams within European Product Development. They work closely with product developers, investment teams and subject matter experts across the business in creating legal and regulatory documentation for fund activities.

Main responsibilities and duties:

 The key activities of the Product Documentation Specialist are given below.

  • Working in full partnership with the product developers to ensure regulatory and documentation issues are addressed in the design and execution of new products and changes to existing products in a way that helps ensure JPMorgan has market leading documentation.
  • Providing advice and assistance on regulatory issues associated with the creation of new products, material product changes, mergers and liquidations.
  • Thinking laterally and globally on the possible impact of product changes to different areas of the business; communicating to all to create involvement and dialogue.
  • Drafting and project managing the review of product legal/regulatory documentation from specification to regulatory approval. This entails internal co-ordination with other business functions, sometimes across Europe, to ensure the products meet appropriate J.P. Morgan and regulatory standards.
  • Liaising with external lawyers and the Depositary/Trustee of UK OEIC and Charity Funds.
  • Supporting the application for regulatory approval of prospectus changes and new funds by working as necessary with relevant Documentation Managers.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships, in particular with the asset class investment desk(s), together with risk and compliance departments, internal and external legal counsel, marketing and distribution.

Essential experience:

  • Experience in the asset management industry directly or through asset management practices of law/consultancy firms, with particular experience in working in the UCITS regulatory framework.

  • Drafting of legal documents with high attention to detail and lateral thinking skills.

  • Experience of managing multiple projects to tight deadlines, within a large, highly complex, cross-functional environment.

  • Credibility and proven ability to engage with stakeholders and develop partnerships across the business at all levels. This should include influencing and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to articulate complex ideas, concepts, and solutions at a level appropriate and intelligible to the recipient.

  • High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills which can be competently utilised to manage a large range of documents.

Essential knowledge:


  • Good technical knowledge of the UCITS environment, in particular with respect to UCITS products which use derivatives for investment purposes. Knowledge of non UCITS structures and documentation requirements of registering UCITS in Asian jurisdictions would be advantageous.

  • A good understanding of the Pan-European asset management industry.

  • Broad understanding of financial instruments used in investment management products. Understanding of portfolio management process and techniques.

  • Qualified lawyer.
