Position Summary
The Trusts & Estates (T&E) Tax practice within Wealth Management supports the tax return filings prepared by outsourced external tax preparers. This role would require a close working relationship with the T&E Tax Leadership team including contact with internal and external stakeholders including key contacts at the vendor who is responsible for tax return preparation. This individual would report directly to the T&E Operations leader.  The Tax Liaison Officer’s primary responsibility will be to provide a strong working knowledge of tax matters for our client base and to ensure timely and accurate information exchanges between the Front Office, Operations Tax and the tax preparers. This would include process and procedure, data validation and integrity, and helping to focus on priority items. This role involves frequent interaction with senior management, tax preparation firms and front office advisors (e.g., Trust Officers, Bankers, Investors, etc.) in a fast-paced team environment, as well as accountability for broader projects.  To support these initiative, this role is manages a staff of between 3-7 resources.   


  • Partner with T&E tax team and external tax preparers to develop and implement annual tax calendar
  • Align group goals and objectives with firm priorities and initiatives
  • Work with team to ensure all team responsibilities are reviewed for relevance and process integrity
  • Offer creative solutions as issues arise and act as a partner on key business decisions
  • Identify potential data integrity issues or gaps and provide guidance to resolve
    Information Management:
  • Ensure team complies with all scheduled communication to the Front Office for upcoming deliverables
  • Provide strong support for all technology requirements and use of technology to improve data transfer between stake holders
  • Enable accurate management reporting of metrics to be provided timely and capturing areas of success or concern
    Risk Management:
  • Ensure proper discipline around data transfer, communication, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Assist JPM Advisors by providing guidance on process with a constant focus on accuracy and risk control
  • Team is responsible for Outside Prepared returns and the Tax Liaison Officer will need to ensure compliance with all standards as set by JPM
    Operations Support:
  • Ensure proper discipline around generation and reconciliation of tax payments
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with tax withholding and reconciliation
  • Interact with other Operations teams for ensure trust accounting facilitation including communication of tax and trust accounting adjustments
    Team Objectives:
  • Assist in overall needs of the team and provide support in areas of specialty as well as during peak periods
  • Work to build strong relationships with external tax preparers

  • Client focused with a tenacity to resolve issues and conflicts
  • Tax, Compliance and Fiduciary experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage staff within changing regulatory environment
  • High energy and enthusiasm required to partner with multiple stakeholders
  • Inquisitive

  • Capable of leading with conviction; willing to make tough/unpopular decisions
  • Affable, with a high tolerance for ambiguity 
  • Bachelor’s degree; CPA Preferred; JD or MBA a plus
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with excellent organizational, multitasking and prioritizing skills
  • Excessive attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skill
  • Familiarity with OneSource Tax Software and Omni Platform a plus
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Specific industry related experience preferred
