JPMorgan Chase Intelligent Solutions Description (JPMIS) specializes in transforming JPMorgan Chase data assets into actionable analytics, insights and technologies that provide measurable business value for partners throughout JPMC. JPMIS also implements and manages high-priority technology programs across the bank driving significant advancement in Big Data, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing.
 
Role:
 
JPMIS is seeking an expert in Data Management.  This role will be part of a newly formed group whose remit is to build on existing data management practices in JPMIS and elsewhere in the firm, and will drive advances in the way we manage information in the Big Data environment.  The role involves close partnership with many functions within JPMIC, including Data Operations, DevOps, and the Data Use team, as well as client facing solution delivery teams.  The role will also partner with technology and data management functions throughout JPMC, including Firmwide Data Management, the Chief Information Architect team, LOB technology teams, and GTI.
 
Reporting line:
 
The Senior Data Manager will report into Iman Poernomo, Head of Data Management, part of David Gleason’s Strategy and Business Operations organization.
 
Team:  The candidate will be part of a team initially consisting of 3 direct reports, with the potential to grow the team as the scope of responsibilities and the JPMIS book of business grows.
 
Location: London (primary location), or New York (5 Manhattan West, alternate location)
 
Primary Responsibilities:  The Data Manager will be responsible for a number of functions
 
  • Operational Data Management for JPMIS
  • Data Quality
  • Data Retention
  • Data Classification
  • Identify areas to enhance operational certainty and auditability of data management practices
  • Improve automation and efficiency of data management within JMPIS (e.g. through application of metadata tools, workflow, robotic process automation, or other capabilities)
  • Partner with Firmwide CDO and Central Architecture on reuse of metadata assets (LDM/Data Dictionary) to catalogue, document and manage data assets in accord with JPMorgan standards.
     
  • Develop, implement and operate next-generation data registration process
  • Design and develop enhancements to an existing Data Access process
  • Integrate the Data Access process with Data Usage governance framework, utilizing advanced technologies
  • Integrate DAF process with Firmwide Data Management capabilities including business glossary and data sourcing contracts
     
  • Develop and execute JPMIS Big Data and API strategies
  • Partner with the JPMIS Big Data team to integrate data management capabilities into automated services (registration, ingestion, search and data access).
  • Assist in the development and deployment of an API strategy for JPMIS-managed data: maximizing standardization, cohesion, reuse and business semantics of the ways JPMIS ingests and distributes data.
  • Engage with JPMC CTO and Architecture functions as well as LOB teams, to ensure a coordinated  API strategy
  • Partner with stakeholders and LOB teams to develop APIs for access to data managed by JPMIS, including intra-JPMC as well as potential external-facing APIs.
  • Assist with JPMC participation in selected industry initiatives for data exchange and access (e.g. Blackrock Open APIs, the Open Banking Working Group, FpML, SWIFT, etc).
  • Lead data identification  & rationalization efforts
  • Partner with JPMIS CTO, Data Ops and Dev Ops teams to drive implementation of data classification and identification software
  • Support efforts to identify and classify data in the JPMIS big data environment, including identification of sensitive data
  • Support data rationalization efforts driven by identification and classification of redundant data in the big data environment
 
  • Work closely with JPMIS and firmwide control functions to ensure that data brought into the JPMIS environment is properly controlled
     
  • Work closely with Data Use team to support efforts to identify, govern and manage usage of data managed by JPMIS

Specific capabilities and qualifications:

  • An established ability to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches, communicate effectively and confidently, and work well in cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of technology, with knowledge of Big Data and Cloud Computing technology and vendors
  • Expertise in Data Architecture, Data Management and Data Quality
  • Experience with technology development and deployment processes required; familiarity with JPMC global technology organization is highly desireable
  • Understanding and interest of key trends within the financial services and technology sector
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – and ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and achieve goals without direct control over resources
  • A track record demonstrating a high level of personal initiative, setting and achieving challenging goals, and demonstrating entrepreneurial leadership
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in Information Technology, with a focus on data-related challenges
