Corporate & Investment Banking Risk - Credit Officer, Credit Risk Management - Vice President - Malaysia

Position Objectives: To analyze counterparties, identify, quantify and mitigate risk drivers in commercial and investment banking transactions, monitor risk exposures, and address counterparty risk deterioration

Position Description:

  • Analyze and mitigate credit risk from traditional lending, trade finance and derivative transactions.
  • Primary responsibility for industry-level coverage of Malaysian counterparties, primarily corporate and financial institutions. 
  • Assist with the oversight of the in-bound MNC portfolio
  • Interface directly with front office staff across all business divisions (e.g. Global Corporate Banking, global markets, trade finance, corporate finance)
  • Conduct independent due diligence on counterparties, including financial analysis, leading client meetings, and preparing rating and credit reports. 
  • Coordinate with other Risk units (Market Risk, CTC Risk, Liquidity Risk, Operational Risk) on credit approvals, counterparty information and credit risk control requirements.
  • Assess global, regional and local market events/trends and their impact (including stress testing)  on the portfolio of counterparties managed.
  • Daily control and exposure management of credit facilities, including follow up on trade execution, booking, credit limit implementation, reporting and monitoring.
  • Ensure proper credit terms are incorporated in trading documents, confirmations and other relevant documents.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant local regulations. 
  • Work with internal operations teams to ensure accuracy of information global risk reporting systems.
  • Coaching and guiding junior team members

Performance Measures:

  • Quality of credit analysis and trade evaluation.
  • Soundness of judgment in making independent decisions.
  • Understanding of products and transaction risk characteristics.
  • Ability to balance risk and return in considering transaction approvals.
  • Ability to communicate concerns and decisions clearly and effectively with business partners, senior management and clients
  • Professionalism of interaction external and internal clients

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in credit risk management and assessment, with focus on corporate/FI sector. Experience in international bank preferred
  • At least a Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics and/or Economics. Preferably with a Master’s Degree with Major in Business, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics and/or Economics.
  • BNM Certified Credit Professional / Chartered Banker qualifications a plus.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to deal professionally and independently with front-office staff and external clients
  • Understanding of Malaysian financial markets, financing structures, and regulatory framework.
  • Understanding of key products in capital markets (e.g. swaps, FX, equities, and collateralised transactions/structures) and trade finance, with focus on product risks.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Familiarity with legal documentation and risk issues, including ISDA, NAFMII, CSA, and credit mitigating measures.
  • Team oriented, flexible, diligent, self-motivated.
  • Sound knowledge of standard computer applications, particularly Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in Malay is preferred.
