Finance & Business Management Overview
Finance & Business Management’s goals are to ensure sound control environments and provide financial advice to support the business strategy. Within F&BM, the Controllers organization is responsible for ensuring the overall integrity and validity of the financial statements and controls over the transaction cycle; performing critical reporting functions for the organization, both financial and regulatory, as well as ensuring execution and implementation of the overall financial architecture.
Position Description
Profit & Loss Attribution analysis and reporting are key control activities which contribute in a significant manner to the product control and valuation framework and also serve as important components of the Firm’s overall risk management process. Finance Senior Management has established a Firm-wide P&L Attribution Policy and Governance Framework to oversee the Firm’s P&L Attribution processes and methodologies.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and highly motivated Associate who will help drive the successful implementation of the P&L Attribution agenda. The role requires working very closely with the senior Product Controllers in the CIB, CCB, Treasury & Asset Management businesses in addition to partnering with senior leads across functions including Model Risk Governance & Review, Market Risk and Valuation Control Groups.
The role is positioned within the Product Control Governance Team.  Although the team reports within the wider Markets Product Control team, the scope of the P&L Attribution role is firm-wide.
The role offers the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the Firm’s products and P&L Attribution methodologies, market risk concepts and controls in addition to interaction with senior management.  The expectation is for this individual to help lead and drive related projects from initial design to final implementation.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with the cross business execution of the firm-wide governance & reporting of the P&L Attribution Policy and related Standards.
  • Understand and help converge the P&L Attribution methodologies used firm-wide for similar products
  • Become the key contact and subject matter expert for matters pertaining to P&L attribution methodologies & processes
  • Assist with organising the P&L Attribution agenda and ensure that significant items across Lines of Business  are escalated to be discussed in the firm-wide P&L Attribution escalation forums with senior Finance & other functional leaders
  • Participate in designing and implementation into production of standard P&L Attribution metrics reporting across all Lines of Business
  • Assist with setting up P&L Attribution working groups with representatives from the Controller’s organisation across Lines of Business
  • Assist with coordinating and preparing responses to regulatory agencies, pertaining to requests or regulatory exams relating to P&L Attribution and related topics
  • Assist with other projects and initiatives owned by the wider Product Control Governance Team, e.g Volcker Rule compliance
  • 3+ years’ experience in Product Control, Valuation Control or Marker Risk.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including assisting with preparing & presenting materials to senior management.
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to articulate and summarize findings to a broad audience.
  • Knowledge of financial products including derivatives.
  • Knowledge of P&L Attribution and Market Risk concepts
  • Ability to influence and facilitate desired actions from virtual teams
  • Creative self-starter with strong initiative, ability to take ownership and work independently as well as contribute to the broader team
