The position is based in London in the Corporate Tax Department as part of the corporate  tax team. This team covers the tax advice and tax risk globally for the wide range of businesses conducted including trading, investment banking, private banking, asset management, treasury, custody services, fund services and commodities.
 
Overview of the role:
 
VAT advisory role together with VAT compliance responsibilities for EMEA commodities activities. .
This role will be to support the senior manager on the advisory functions for the investment banking and lines of business across various locations globally.
  • Providing advice and technical guidance to the Business, Operations and Finance teams in the commodities line of business in various jurisdictions;
  • Implementation of best practice across the commodities line of business and legal Reviewing new products ,new business initiatives and Brexit planning.
  • Some VAT compliance activities for commodities.
  • Liaising with legal and accounting firms for best advice.
Key Skills:
  • CTA Qualified (indirect tax route) or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
  • Practical experience in dealing with UK and EU VAT matters.
  • Previous Commodities or FS VAT experience essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to work autonomously but also willing to work under instruction.
  • Comfortable working within a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Ideally, 4yrs+ relevant professional experience within either:
    • “Big 4” or top tier private practice firm
    • Law firm
    • An international commodities or financial services business
 Requirements for the candidate:
  • Good technical knowledge of UK and EU VAT law.
  • Previous commodities or  FS experience essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Be able to work with all levels within the organisation.
  • Ability to work autonomously but also willing to work under instruction.
