The Market Intelligence Technology group at JPMorgan is a global team responsible for the infrastructure, support, training, and implementation of a single tick store for CIB built upon KDB technology.  A senior role exists within the team focused on the creation of a KDB University and act as SME on the underlying technology.

 

Key elements of role

 

  • Develop core components and frameworks as part of the strategic platform for applications to leverage
  • Complete appropriate unit and team cross-testing to advance the overall QA effort
  • Act as a subject matter expert on KDB technology to help train others
  • Work closely with the Production Management, Core Engineering and Data Management teams to ensure optimal solutions that can be properly supported

 

 

Required Skills

-       Strong programming skills in Q and at least one of Java, Python or C++

-       Experience and good understanding of market data, especially tick data

-       Strong architectural skills in systems engineering and application architecture

-       5+ yrs experience using KDB technology to build solutions for the financial industry

-       Knowledgeable in the different types of storage options (column based, noSQL, relational, etc) to properly choose the appropriate technology for the problem domain.


As a Senior Application Developer, you will participate on project teams, doing application analysis, development and modification and provide design recommendations for developing and integrating programs per written specifications.  You will follow Application Engineering guidelines, processes and procedures and champion the use of these within teams, looking for ways in which to continuously improve them by researching emerging IT products, services, processes and methodologies.  Additionally, you ensure appropriate business measures are defined in partnership with the business, and in conjunction with the Service Delivery team.  Part of your role includes utilizing multiple programming languages and software technologies to ensure that applications are fit for purpose and are maintainable going forward and you may be required to undertake some database development work.   You will also contribute to the development of information models, such as entity relationship diagrams and objects and make complex modifications to existing software applications and modules in accordance with high level specifications, application support, and industry standards. 


 

Your responsibilities include analyses of service level issues and suggested enhancements which have been escalated by the Service Delivery Team, in order to diagnose and address underlying system problems and inefficiencies, assess and recommend for buy versus build decisions.  This may result in a decision to purchase, develop in-house or go with a third party vendor.  The outcome needs to ensure optimal value for the business in terms of the total cost of ownership for the system.  You will also have the opportunity to test and implement cross-business applications as well as participate in technical design and engage with third party suppliers on support issues.

 

A Senior Application Developer maintains working relationships across all businesses, across IB Technology, and between technology team members by promoting teamwork.  You will manage the day to day workload of junior team members, monitoring project milestones and critical dates to identify potential jeopardy of project schedule and identify / mitigate risk as well as develop, train, and coach junior team members, including providing on-the-job training.

  • College degree, specialized training, or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5+ years of programming/application development work experience
  • Requires experience or understanding of multiple programming languages, systems, as well as systems design and project management methodologies
  • Comprehensive expertise in the software development process
  • Previous supervisory experience is also beneficial
