The Executive Director leading Application Telemetry Engineering will own architecture, design, and build of Telemetry, including monitoring, metric and event frameworks, visualization and high volume data aggregation.  A successful candidate will work alongside Product Owners and Chief Development Officers to deploy systems critical to instrumentation of applications, services and business flows.  Data collected from these solutions is used for real time alerts, and is correlated and visualized in self-service operational dashboards.  Data is examined against traditional alert capabilities, dynamic threshold variance, anomaly detection, and event cluster correlation.  Telemetry solutions span all deployment patterns including legacy, micro-services, both on and off premise cloud, and mainframe.
The Executive Director will build relationships and work with the business and IT leadership to understand current and develop new strategies and implications on applications and operations. Utilize experience with budgetary forecasting, Global resource teams, client and vendor management, risk and vulnerability management, disaster recovery planning and developer/code efficiency concepts.  Provide input, influence decisions, and drive change across technology, not limited by organizational lines or to activities within their own department.
  • Lead architecture, design and development of instrumentation, aggregation, and data distribution solutions via various commercial and open source products including: Prometheus, Kafka, Spark, Cassandra, custom solutions, etc.
  • Develop dashboard and event alerting for critical business transactions, with demonstrated expertise regarding data models, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Build a DevOps culture and through that, drive adoption of solutions across development community and production management teams
  • Develop and define strategic goals, roadmaps to achieve those goals, and success criteria to confirm goals have been met
  • Definition of the service architecture via various mechanisms (including presentations, documents, standards selection, vendor selection and reference implementations)
  • Working with technology teams to realize solutions to project requirements and review designs and test plans/results to confirm that goals are met
  • Working with technology team to articulate roadmap progress and coordinate with other team members to make decisions regarding solution constraints or directions
  • Participate in a technology project from concept to implementation, and through all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Create work estimates based on technology concepts and requirements documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related technical field
  • Ten plus years of experience in information technology field, with a minimum of five managing large teams
  • Broad technology experience encompassing infrastructure, operations and development
  • Experience with direct and matrix management of technology professionals in a global organization
  • Experience managing large technology budgets, including:
    • Staffing – both direct and contractors
    • Equipment & Software purchases
    • Maintenance contracts
  • Key Skills
    • Ability to build relationships across business groups and technology organizations
    • Must have excellent interpersonal, relationship and negotiating skills
    • Ability to effectively manage a complex and demanding book of work that supports varying business groups
    • Advanced IT, process improvement, and problem solving skills
    • Comfortable presenting ideas to most senior management in JPMC
  • Experienced in highly available, high scalable application/service development
  • Experience with Application Performance Monitoring solutions for java and .NET based applications
  • Experience with budgetary forecasting, risk and vulnerability management, disaster recovery planning.
  • Working Knowledge of Agile methodology
  • DevOps transformational experience
