The Global Business Travel Tax team is a newly formed specialist function within the Human Resources function. The creation of this new team is in recognition of the increased focus from tax authorities on tax reporting and withholding requirements for business travelers.  The newly formed team will be responsible for introducing a phased implementation of the program across the APAC region – this will include providing guidance oversight, analytical support, liaison with tax experts, operational support for escalations and vendor management (of an outsourcing partner).
This role will report to the APAC Business Travel Tax Program Manager and will help drive global implementation, support the selected outsourced vendor, coordinate across all program work streams, drive the set-up of ongoing processes for BAU, and manage other required program functions. The role will also support APAC regional managers with setting up operational procedures and implementation support including identifying tax liabilities in relation to business travel by employee base in partnership with outsourced vendor. From a regional perspective, the position will define the BAU operations (people, process, technology and controls framework) to support all facets of the JPMC Business Travel Tax Program including: coordination between internal and external stakeholders (including Business Traveler Teams, local/ USA payroll teams, Corporate Controllers, Expatriate Teams) in transmitting various data feeds to the third party vendor in order to track potential tax liabilities for JPMC and its employees; correspond between global and line of business partners to help manage tax compliance and reporting; and to be a point of contact for organizational change and communication teams.
Key Responsibilities
Oversight of process design
  • Lead process design activities for the Global Business Travel Tax Program Policy and Process work stream
  • Partner with outsourced vendor in defining process design for APAC and finalizing program documentation
  • Coordinate Risk & Control and SOP reviews and drive team to include appropriate level of detail and accuracy for operational readiness
  • Draft technology requirements arising from Business Traveler Program; working with the technology teams to identify the technology solutions needed to support the business process
  • Drive processes toward Operational Excellence through standardization, automation, etc.
  • Define operational metrics to measure program success and conduct associated research
Testing leadership
  • Define APAC Test Plans in coordination with GBTTP Global Testing Lead and external vendor on various aspects for testing (Enrollment, Tax Withholding, etc.)
  • Drive and support UAT execution and management: develop test scripts and supply test data; identify test resources; review data privacy and technology requirements
  • Support Program Manager to maintain and manage program risks, actions, issues, and dependencies; drive execution of  business requirements definition and identify gaps; conduct program analysis as necessary in support of program needs and APAC work stream leads
  • Strategy/leadership: Build strong business partnerships with regional payroll operations; Line of Business coordinators and all other regional partners responsible for processing the tax obligations for individual employees.
Project/program management
  • Strong Project Management, Implementation, and/or Operations experience  or other relevant industry/consulting experience
  • Strong experience in a fast-paced environment driving large scale transformation initiatives including implementing programs in a phased approach and managing multiple stakeholders and deliverables
  • Strong solution and goal-oriented approach with ability to facilitate meetings and assist with keeping team leads on course and follow through with meeting objectives
  • Excellent judgment skills necessary in order to facilitate timely issue resolution related to the implementation and assist with escalation to the program lead
Problem solving and analysis
  • Strong analytical skills to carry out program analysis (i.e., analyzing and interpreting numerical/non-numerical data) in support of the program as needed
  • Competent in numerical analysis including use of excel; ability to identify issues, root-causes and propose hypothesis driven solutions based on strategic decisions undertaken for the program
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Strong attention to detail with eye for spotting errors and redundancies in end-products
Interpersonal/communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Confident speaker with ability to provide clear and succinct verbal updates on their work to different program stakeholders
  • Advanced Power Point skills – able to create individual slides and structure presentations with minimal input and need for secondary review
  • Develops visually appealing & ‘management-friendly’ end-products
  • Strong interpersonal and vendor relationship management skills
Working style & influence
  • Strong relationship and influencing skills necessary to gain respect of work stream leads, subject matter experts across various functions, as well as the program steering committee
  • Ability to work comfortably and confidently under pressure and aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple work streams and manage personal time & stakeholder expectations to deliver against each
  •  Safe pair of hands – manages/tracks deliverables and proactively follows-up and provides updates
  • Ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment with changing initiatives
  • Post-graduate/MBA (or Bachelor’s degree with at least 2-3 years project management and/or operations experience)
  • Management/IT consulting/strategy & operations background preferred
  • HR Operations/tax/payroll/technology background a plus
