European Product Development and Documentation

The European Product Development and Documentation team is responsible for developing and managing the documentation of JPMorgan Asset Management's Pan-European open-ended domiciled fund ranges which comprise more than fifteen  umbrella structures, 260 funds, and more than 2,400 active share classes, which are registered in 36 countries globally with AUM in excess of $280 billion.

The team is structured into three core functions:  Product Development, Product Documentation and Strategic Initiatives and Product Line Management.  

Key activities of the team include:
Product Development:

  • Facilitate cross-functional working groups to develop business cases for new product ideas and evaluate significant changes and enhancements to existing funds
  • Review competitor offerings, offering technical insight, to facilitate the development of new product ideas in partnership with the broader Strategic Product Management team

  • Scope prioritized product ideas which include both new product ideas and enhancements/changes to existing funds, and mergers/liquidations of funds to facilitate review and approval through appropriate governance forums, including fund boards and regulators

  • Bring new funds to market and implement changes to existing funds, managing across all functions within the business

Product Documentation

  • In full partnership with product developers, produce market leading documentation that considers all legal, regulatory and technical issues
  • Maintain consistency and quality across prospectuses through a robust quality control and oversight process that includes partnership with internal and external counsel

  • Strategic oversight of global changes to the prospectuses and offering documents for all funds domiciled in Europe (excluding certain alternative products)

Strategic Initiatives and Product Line Management

  • Manage strategic product development related initiatives that extend beyond specific new funds, changes and enhancements

  • Oversee and deliver the ongoing optimisation of the product range in partnership with the broader Strategic Product Management team

  • Define naming and pricing conventions, share class strategy and capacity management

  • Assess the impact and manage the implementation of regulatory change across EMEA

Overview of the Role:

The focus of the role is to  partner with the product development team and other cross functional partners to facilitate strategic product development related initiatives that extend beyond specific new funds, changes and enhancements (e.g. transformational regulatory change, projects requiring global coordination that originate from or impact EMEA, entry into new product segments, etc.)

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • The role will involve local and global interaction across the asset management business, with a focus on facilitating the development of proposals and partnering with the team to drive strategic initiatives forward with key stakeholders.    Assisting in the presentation (or documentation) of these proposals to key governance forums will also be a primary responsibility.

  • The role will also include a focus on supporting the ongoing optimisation of the product range, facilitating the definition of naming and pricing conventions, implementing share class strategy and managing reporting associated with seed capital and capacity.

  • Other responsibilities will include producing or coordinating adhoc analysis and producing ongoing metrics to aid in decision making and management of the team.


Essential experience:

  • Experience or interest in the asset management industry with particular focus on the development and delivery of investment management products, which may include UCITS products, as well as alternative asset classes (e.g. private equity, hedge funds, other illiquid asset classes), alternative investment structures (e.g. Luxembourg SIFs, Part II funds) and preferably experience of local structures in major European domiciles including UK life funds.

  • Credibility and ability to engage with managers across disciplines (portfolio management, distribution, strategy, marketing and operations) to  discuss and facilitate the execution of strategic initiatives

  • Working understanding of the product development lifecycle and experience managing and delivering new products and product changes within a large, highly complex, cross-functional environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and an ability to articulate complex ideas, concepts, and solutions at a level appropriate and intelligible to the recipient
  • Thinking competencies - strategic, conceptual, analytical

  • Ability to manage complexity and deliver solutions to a tight deadline

  • Strong project management disciplines and an ability to ensure structure, process, accountability, delivery and client-focus

  • Ability to develop effective partnerships with key business partners

  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint

Essential knowledge:

  • Working to proficient technical capability in the UCITS and non-UCITS environment, including related legal and tax matters and the implications for product design.

  • An interest in the Pan-European asset management competitor landscape, product range strengths and weaknesses by competitor

  • A general understanding of securities and instruments, portfolio management techniques, investment processes, and investment management products
