An opening has arisen for an Analyst or Associate to work within the Equity Research EMEA Quantitative and Derivatives Research team in London.
Job Description:
The employee will be responsible for developing quantitative strategies, building financial models, help in writing research publications, help maintain vendor and proprietary databases and in producing customized analyses for external clients, as well as our internal sales and trading teams (and other desks including PT, Delta One, Structuring and Derivatives). Also help clients with risk analysis, assist in portfolio hedging and various screening techniques to implement customized investment strategies.
Detailed Description:
  • Update and maintain the quantitative database and infrastructure used for analysis and back testing
  • Build and maintain customized tools for top-down macro and bottom up valuation, growth, momentum, quality, risk, SRI/ESG, Big Data and behavioural /sentiment analysis
  • Maintain and further develop proprietary models using macroeconomic, bottom-up equity, derivatives and credit data
  • External and Internal Client requests – source data from many internal and external databases to carry out bespoke requests and analysis for JPM’s institutional investor clients
  • Work with JPM Structure Products desk to help create custom solution for clients based on quantitative research
  • Automate update of any proprietary results and indicators related to new research
  • Track latest academic research relating to investment strategies
  • Work with senior colleagues in the team to provide thought-leadership to institutional clients with respect to the sector
  • Stay abreast of industry developments
  • Prepare analysis and write research publications on a regular basis
  • Support and help produce quantitative research
Prior experience gained on the sell-side, buy-side or investment banking will be a significant advantage.
The candidate needs to be able to write well, be able to independently analyze stocks, sectors and quantitative strategies and to be able to deal confidently with people at all levels of the organisation and J.P. Morgan clients in the asset management industry.
Desired Qualification:
  • Must have knowledge of database languages (MS SQL/Oracle) and proficiency in programming languages used for analysis and presentation – for example, Visual Basic, Matlab, R, Python that are used to create and analyze quantitative investment strategies
  • Must be able to maintain data and analytical infrastructure and be proficient in adding new functionalities
  • Must have expertise on all or most of the various industry data sources – for example, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, IBES, Factset Fundamentals, Compustat, Capital IQ, MSCI Barra, option metrics.
  • Must know data processing methodologies for signal building and strategy testing
  • Must have relevant technical skill and experience to build and customize existing infrastructure for new quantitative models
  • Financial markets experience (sell-side, buy-side or investment banking/M&A) preferred, with knowledge of how financial markets work
  • Strong analytical, numerical and quantitative skills
  • Excellent written communication skills, with ability to write impactful short and longer pieces
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence and ability to successfully present, debate and defend ideas
  • Ambitious, hard-working, with attention to detail and capacity to show initiative
  • Reliable team player as well as ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Fluency in English is essential; a second European language would be helpful
