Job Description:

The GNOC Core network group is responsible for the operational support of a high speed low latency network backbone. The GNOC engineer will work in a team environment in developing and maturing the Core Network support service through innovation and emerging technology. The role is highly technical and requires experience in network and application support.

The GNOC Core support engineer primary mission is to engage on break/fix issues affecting the firms Network globally with a goal of rapid restoration of services.  The Core engineer will provide firsthand knowledge of the networks supporting the bank and utilize a set of run books that have quicker response, escalation, and resolution targets.

Responsibilities:

Monitor latency, bandwidth utilization, and the general condition of the WAN; reporting on problems to the Trading teams on a real-time basis

Utilize run books that foster quicker response, escalation, and resolution targets.

Utilize tools such as Smarts, Sniffers, NetCool, NASH, Concord, SevOne, and Splunk for improved network support.

Create event tickets affecting the Core network and work within an accelerated SLA time for repair.

Perform appropriate escalations as needed to Management, SMEs and Tier 3 Network team.

Support post incident restoral work through approved change windows.

Work closely with the Operate teams to drive and coordinate a planned repair/restore and provide email status of the work.

Support a daily network SOD calls globally

Interface with global exchanges, brokers and technology vendors on infrastructure products

Perform a daily set of scripted reach-ability checks and tests across the network globally

Partners with Global Services Delivery support teams for continuous Improvement on process, procedure and day to day operations.

Interface with Line of Business Command Centers for swift actions on critical issues, with a goal of minimizing impact and reduced MTTR.

Partners with Vendors for escalations and improved incident resolution MTTR

Identify potential automation opportunities for greater efficiency in operation support

Qualifications:

Minimum 4+ years experience in IT covering operations functions

Experience working in a banking, exchange or technology type environment within a global organization

Expertise of networking fundamentals including: network topology, VLANs, routing, global/local load balancing, firewalls, etc

Expert in multicast, low latency networks, and market data related technologies

Strong experience in Protocol Analyzers (Endace, Apcon, Wireshark, OpNet)

Strong experience in capacity management tools (Concord, SevOne)

Strong experience in prioritization, process and problem analysis

Strong communication skills - written and verbal

Strong work ethic in a mission-critical 24x7 diverse environment with multiple vendor/customer relationships

Must be flexible, hands on and able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, client-focused and collaborative environment

Manage problems and follow up on incidents and write incident reports
