The Corporate & Investment Bank – Data Engineering group is the central technology organization that is responsible for enabling and enforcing superior Data Management and analytical technology across JP Morgan’s Corporate, Investment Management & Banking businesses.   The team will help modernize CIB data architecture through the creation of a common data lake called Edison, and the engineering of an "open architecture" framework for the information delivery lifecycle.  The multi-tenant Edison platform will create a consolidated platform for all of our data assets, making our data available, accessible and integrated.
The Data Engineering Lead is responsible for the design and development of our data platform that enables the delivery and construction processes for the Data Management, Data Discovery and Analytics group, leveraging emerging big data technologies.   
The successful candidate will provide high quality technology solutions that address business needs by developing software and platform. The candidate will have experience building large scale platforms in a financial institution, managing geographically diverse teams, and a proven track record of strong people management. The candidate will also have experience managing a structured and agile software development lifecycle and have experience with data management/data engineering/data governance.
The candidate must be able to partner effectively across the organization, in particular with our Architecture, Applications development, Production Support, Risk & Control, Human Resources, and Business Management partners. Experience working with a sizeable technology organization with complex programs is required, in particular in banking / finance with exposure to Investment and/or Wholesale Banking lines of business.
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Manage a structured and agile software development lifecycle
  • Oversee, manage and build a global, scalable and high performing delivery team
  • Ensure that the team delivers towards key milestones to support our roadmap
  • Provide technical direction and ensure quality delivery
  • Build deep & trusted relationships with peer group within the Big Data space in CIB and JPMorgan Chase
  • Cultivate an open, honest and transparent environment that encourages proper collaboration between Product & Technology teams
  • Partner with Business, Tech Peers and Product teams to effectively communicate a technology vision & implementation strategy
  • Strong proponent and enforcer of agile principles and adoption of innovative technologies that enable rapid delivery
  • Generates innovative ideas to deliver business value, improve efficiency and reduce cost
  • Ensuring excellent practices are utilized in delivering Big Data Management and Integration Solutions.
  • Ensuring design decisions can be actioned by the development team.
  • Acting as a role model for all best practices, ensuring consistency across entire team.
  • Mentoring technical development team on optimal utilization of Big Data solutions and Apache Open Source Software.
  • Leveraging new and emerging practices for Enterprise Data Architecture.
  • Engage in enterprise-level systems component design and implementation.
  • Systems integration, including design and development of APIs, Adapters, and Connectors.
  • Integration with Hadoop/HDFS, Real-Time Systems, Data Warehouses, and Analytics solutions.
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
      • Experience building a large scale platform in a financial institution
      • Experience building a high performing engineering team
      • Experience with data management/data engineering/data governance
      • Ability to take ownership of the E2E deliver cycle starting with requirements all the way thru implementation
      • Strong technology foundation allowing for a continuous grounding of the business needs against a potential solution
      • Ability to work with direct & matrix management for business engagement, solution development & delivery
      • Working experience with big data technologies such as HDFS, HBase, Hive, Pig, Spark, MapReduce, etc.
      • Minimum 10+ years development experience
      • Minimum 5+ years management/leadership experience
      • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong work ethic
      • Ability to translate business requirements into functional requirements documentation.
      • Experience with development, deployment, and support of large-scale distributed applications in a mission-critical production environment.
      • Test-infected attitude (strong desire to perform thorough and exhaustive unit, integration and system testing).

      • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadline
      • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers, senior level personnel, subordinates, and team member
      • Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
      • Ability to influence senior executive stakeholders to take action / facilitate buy-in of recommendations
      • Ability to work with a team of SMEs to assess needs, understand requirements, and syndicate solutions
      • Act as a trusted advisor to peers and LOB partners
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      Desired Skills:
      • 7+ years working with Open Source Java frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, Mule ESB, Jersey or similar).
      • Managing teams working on large scale delivery in Private or Public Cloud with Microservice implementations, using HTML Angular JS2 for front-end, Microservice in the middle tier and Oracle and Big Data as back-end services
      • Experience with Javascript (JQuery, modern MV* such as Ember or Angular).
      • Strong working knowledge of Oracle RDBMS.
      • Experience with Linux shell scripts is nice to have
