J.P. Morgan is seeking talented candidates for a position as a Strategy Vice President/Executive Director in our Commercial Banking (CB) Core Strategy Group. The group functions as an internal consulting team and works, on a project basis, to address topics at the top of senior management agendas. This role will provide the opportunity to work on many initiatives across the Commercial Banking organization.

 

Projects managed by CB Core Strategy include developing growth strategies, assessing market needs and changes, evaluating new products and services and refining go-to-market sales strategies.  This team also drives major internal and external presentations, including CB’s annual Investor Day and executive-level strategy discussions.  Projects are team-based and include extensive collaboration with partners throughout the lines of business and functional areas.

 

Our business

Commercial Banking provides a full range of services including lending, treasury services, investment banking, commercial card and asset management products to meet its clients’ domestic and international financial needs. CB’s 1,600 bankers serve approximately 18,000 clients nationally, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit entities, with annual revenue generally ranging from $20 million to $2 billion, and nearly 37,000 real estate clients, owners and investors.  CB is the third largest commercial bank in the U.S., with almost $170 billion in loans and almost $180 billion in deposits. In 2016, CB generated revenue and earnings of $7.5 billion and $2.7 billion, respectively.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and influence senior leaders on key business decisions, major change initiatives and strategic agenda
  • Independently structure and oversee the execution of in-depth qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Conduct internal and external Interviews with stakeholders
  • Develop insights to identify issues and arrive at recommendations for CB CEO and senior management team
  • Monitor industry trends and analyze internal performance to provide insightful intelligence that facilitates and drives business strategy
  • Take a leadership role in evaluating new business opportunities, including spearheading external partnership discussions
  • Establish advisory relationships with key internal stakeholders and partner with strategy teams across the JPMC on firmwide initiatives
  • Support the creation of execution plans for successful transition to business management
  • Manage the creation of internal and external strategic presentations / executive communication materials for CB CEO to articulate strategic direction and execution
  • Recruit, manage and develop junior resources to maximize performance and potential

  • 8+ years of experience at a premier management consulting firm or at an internal consulting/corporate strategy team, including 2+ years of experience motivating and leading teams
  • Experience in leading initiatives/projects to resolve diverse problem solving challenges
  • Strong analytical capabilities to structure and build complex quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses
  •  Proven end-to-end problem solving skills with the ability to solve large, complex problems, obtain consensus and implement change
  • Clear understanding of lifetime client value, multi-channel sales strategy and cross-product partnerships to optimize commercial success of JPMC franchise
  • Effective use of business knowledge and technical expertise to challenge assumptions and operating models
  • Ability to interact with colleagues at all levels, including CB Operating Committee, in a peer-like way, and achieve goals without direct control over resources
  • Proven ability to manage multiple teams to complete high quality deliverables
  • Successful track record demonstrating a high level of personal initiative, setting and achieving challenging goals and demonstrating entrepreneurial leadership
  • Outstanding ability to work well in cross-functional teams while coaching and developing other team members
  • Experience as engagement managers is preferable
