Role and Department information
The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co. seeks a lawyer based in Luxembourg to support its Treasury Services and Investor Services and Wealth Management businesses and operations in Luxembourg, together with providing oversight and support to the board, management and corporate functions of J.P. Morgan Bank Luxembourg S.A.   
 
The Legal Department of JP Morgan Chase & Co. comprises over 1800 professionals globally.
 
Principal Responsibilities:
 
  • Acting as the key representative of the Legal Department for the legal entity JP Morgan Bank Luxembourg SA, and overseeing all business and corporate activities conducted through that legal entity;
  • Identifying and managing legal risk and advising the business and other stakeholders on relevant legal and regulatory issues including, inter alia, Bank secrecy, anti money laundering, “know your customer” requirements, competition, sanctions, data privacy, outsourcing HR and corporate governance issues.;
  • Supporting Corporate Governance for local legal entities and branches and supporting (together with Compliance and other Control functions) the internal Control and Risk agenda;
  • Advising on legal and regulatory developments;
  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting legal transaction documentation for Investor Services, Treasury Services and Wealth Management as well as for the firm’s own Treasury function;
  • Advising on new product expansion and periodic product reviews;
  • Liaising with local regulators on legal and regulatory matters in conjunction with local Compliance;
  • Assisting in the development of policies, procedures and standard forms;

Coordination with and assistance to the legal teams in other locations.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting with HR related matters in conjunction with EMEA HR Legal team;
  • Supporting litigation in conjunction with EMEA Litigation team;
  • Participating in a working groups (e.g. hosted by industry associations)
  • Participating in Business Control Committees for the LOBs
  • Participating in Outsourcing Committees
  • Participating in Local Operating Committees
Specific Qualifications:
 
  • Knowledge and experience of Luxembourg law (in particular banking, securities law, custody) with relevant experience gained at a top tier law firm or a bank or investment firm. Knowledge and understanding of common law would be n advantage.
  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and experience of dealing with senior management in challenging and demanding situations and under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in transactional workflow and ability to deal in an informed manner with a wide range of products.
  • An organized self-starter able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals.
  • Flexible time manager with an ability to prioritize and respond to business needs and goals.
  • Languages: French and English
