Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is the technology infrastructure organization for the firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner. Job Description:
 
End User Services (EUS) delivers measurable business value by providing core desktop technology solutions that meet business demand while realizing cost efficiencies. EUS works with our Line of Business partners to develop standardized, resilient operating environments and implement a global technology strategy for the firm's virtual desktops, workstations laptops and remote access users. We oversee important tasks, including: incident management, user management, security access and controls, work order management, media management, application and business data recovery, and disaster recovery. The role exists within Virtual Platform Services (VPS) which is responsible for engineering activities specific to end user computing. VPS is aggressively engineering for a future state that transforms the way end users are able to operate across multiple types of end-points or devices. Virtual Desktop Engineering is a function within VPS that is responsible for the core platform including all requirements of a large diverse user population. This role is for a Senior Engineer Lead to play a key role within the desktop engineering team responsible for architecting, designing and engineering enterprise platform solutions with over two hundred thousand endpoints in a global environment. The candidate must be able to work within the small globally distributed team and become a leader within this center of excellence for the core desktop platform within JPMorgan Chase. The candidate must have proven ability to diagnose, isolate and resolve complex application and network issues down to the packet level. The candidate must have strong hands on experience engineering platform solutions based on Microsoft Windows with a focus on designing for the enterprise and utilizing agile development techniques within the desktop engineering function.  Responsibilities:
  • Engineer the core desktop platform and supporting infrastructure in line with our key objectives of Automation and Virtual Desktop
  • Research options providing functional and technical written evaluations of products and operating system upgrades and patches
  • Develop, organize and maintain standard operational procedures
  • Create and maintain systems documentation for testing and validation
  • Maintain relevant and current knowledge and be a leader, within assigned technical fields
  • Prioritize work efforts, multi-task in a very fast-paced environment, and provide timely and clear updates
  • Provide technical consultations and presentations to LOBs as needed
  • Create and lead configuration management processes, while following all change management guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently without intensive oversight – must self motivated and take initiative on a regular basis finding ways to avoid problems proactively rather than just fixing them after the fact)
  • Initiative and ability to research problems independently, finding root cause
  • Emphasis on sharing of knowledge through good communications, peer training and written documentation
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; including documentation
 
 
  • 10 - 15 years of experience managing windows based PC’s with at least 10 years of hands on engineering experience with Microsoft Windows
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and core desktop applications and fundamental application integration experience
  • Architect experience of VMWare, Citrix desktop virtualization technologies
  • Understanding of Sysinternals tools with the ability to create memory dumps and analyze network traces
  • VBScript, PowerShell and Batch scripting experience is essential with C#, WCF web service development integrating with MS SQL preferred and some WinApi experience. Use of Subversion a plus
  • Strong knowledge of OS image creation using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and extending the Microsoft tool set into the enterprise
  • Strong Experience knowledge in automation of Operating Windows deployment.
  • Experience of deploying and supporting large scale O/S migrations and introducing new technology based on business needs and industry standards
  • Solid foundation designing and implementing distributions with Active Directory and Group policy
  • Roaming Profiles for user settings, builds and distributions (AD) – AppSense, VMware User Environment Manager (Flex +)
  • Advanced Networking concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security)
  • Ability to read and understand Wireshark and Netmon network traces
  • 7+ years of experience supporting geo-diverse production systems
  • 4+ years of enterprise scale (hands on) experience with VMware vSphere and Citrix ecosystem technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to program in one or more structured languages such as C, Java, JavaScript, Power Shell, Python, VB .NET; as well as, domain-specific languages such as HTML, SQL
  • Proficiency in Python, PERL, Shell Scripting and macro’s
 
Preferred Skills:
  • Strong customer facing and relationship building skills
  • Ability to uncover business challenges and develop solutions to solve those challenges
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring less experienced team members
  • College or Graduate Degree is preferable
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft DFS/DFSR
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft group policies
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Clustering services
  • Intermediate knowledge in blade server virtualization, storage fabric technology and converged infrastructure; either through an in-depth understanding of foundational principals or through hands on experience.
  • Resource Kit level knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 and Windows 7/10
  • Knowledge of Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud technologies
