The Beta Strategies business, a global business unit within JPMAM, was formed in 2016 to build and market specialized index and quantitative investment strategies through a broad range of investment vehicles, including Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF).

The JPMAM Beta Strategies group is looking for a strong, proven leader to join senior management as Head of the Beta Strategies Indexing Group. This individual will lead the Beta Strategies Group efforts to grow its proprietary index efforts. This role is expected to assume hands-on leadership of index initiatives and work closely with senior business management to define strategic direction, problem solve and drive execution.
 
Key responsibilities:
 
  • Own, develop, and drive the strategic direction for self-indexing and third party index relationships.
  • Create and champion the business plan for indexing effort. Define market opportunity for Beta Strategies and develop roadmap for implementation,
  • Partner with internal product groups, quantitative beta strategies researchers, client portfolio managers and/or third parties to create new index products. Lead product development on on-going management of all proprietary indexes.
  • Responsible for strategic relationship management of external providers across third party index product providers, benchmark administrators and calculation agents, and data providers. Will provide direction on which firms to engage to meet product and business objectives and lead negotiations for all commercial arrangements.
  • Ensure compliance with current and evolving standards and regulatory requirements for self-indexing asset managers.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance groups to integrate the Index Group into existing business and create risk controlled governance operating models.
  • 8+ years working experience in business management, preferably in index development or product management within an asset management firm or index provider.
  • Excellent understanding and experience working with index products and ETFs.
  • Practicing knowledge of IOSCO principals, EU benchmarking rules, and SEC guidelines for self-indexing.
  • Knowledge of factor analytics, portfolio construction, and quantitative modeling across asset classes including fixed income and equity.
  • Experience and professional network among index providers. History of developing strong industry relationships and partnerships.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem solving, analytical, and competitive thinking skills.
  • Organized, detailed oriented, capable of advancing multiple projects simultaneously, and an ability to lead multifunctional teams.
  • Proven ability to execute tactically while keeping bigger long term picture in view.
  • Managing multiple strategic projects simultaneously across a range of functions and organizational units
  • Exceptional interpersonal leadership and influencing skills, and ability to collaborate and achieve goals without direct control over resources
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; prior experience presenting to and working closely with senior management
  • Ability to developing business cases, project plans, team structures, and governance models to drive results
