Business Banking serves the banking needs of businesses with $.5 million to $20 million in revenue. The Business Direct Center in Business Banking will fulfill credit requests less than or equal to $250K for unassigned clients and prospects.  Business Banking is looking for a Manager who will lead a team of phone-based bankers in developing these credit opportunities while maintaining a focus on relationship-building, financial advice, client experience and risk management.  This phone-based platform could expand to support complex treasury products, overdraft policy, pending of accounts, or complex account opening.


  • Reporting to the BDC Director, this position will manage a phone-based team of bankers whose role is to serve the small-dollar credit needs of the national unmanaged client portfolio.
  • Build and maintain a  team of 18 - 25 bankers committed to serving our market partners and small business clients with professional and value-added support throughout the loan application process.
  • Coach bankers to provide accurate credit recommendations based on financial statement and cash flow analysis in the initial credit application process.  
  • Manage team performance, holding all members accountable for achieving results using appropriate protocols and best business practices; monitor ongoing performance metrics to ensure early intervention and effective corrective action; provide insight and expertise to build buy-in and/or enhance/realign approach
  • Deliver complete, high quality credit applications to Credit Service Center to meet approval rate, booking, and portfolio growth objectives within established risk parameters.
  • Oversee the team’s revenue and profitability and monitors adherence to credit quality, regulatory requirements and risk protocols.
  • Partner with Branch and Credit Service Center to support efforts to improve approval rate, booking rate, and turn time.
  • Provides support  to team on non-routine business issues e.g. product pricing, deal structuring and sponsorship, client relationships, management issues.
  • Actively recruits, selects and hires top quality talent to ensure pipeline of diverse viable candidates
  • 5+ years of Commercial, Business Banking &/or Consumer Branch Banking management experience  leading a  team in producing consistent yearly results with a commitment to customer service.
  • Business Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
  • Strong business acumen, ability to understand business financial statements, determine cash flow capacity, and understand loan structure to provide appropriate financing recommendations to business applicants across various industries and business types.
  • Proven track record in successfully managing employees to meet goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of Chase Business Banking credit products, philosophy, policies, structure, and legal issues.
  • Strong acumen with respect to Process Flow, Risk Mgmt., Compliance and Controls
  • Results-oriented, customer-focused with a bias for action and sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated track record of being an effective team player and collaborator.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to use reports, metrics and other data to identify trends, issues and opportunities; identify solutions and remove roadblocks for the team; utilize available resources to resolve issues when appropriate
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization and influence others without direct control
  • Proven ability to maintain a client focus while managing risk
  • Ability to lead proactively through change
