Group Description
CIB Credit Risk Management is responsible for lending activities and related credit exposures within JPM’s Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB). The group is organized by geography with teams aligned by industry. CIB Credit Risk Managers lead the client credit relationship in partnership with Investment Banking.
The Special Credits Group (SCG) primarily focuses on risk-managing and maximizing the recovery of JPM’s credit exposure through early intervention in and financial restructuring of stressed/distressed borrowers. SCG is industry-agnostic and plays a key role in identifying credit issues early, allowing the firm to risk manage deteriorating exposures effectively. SCG manages litigious/settlement situations, longstanding liquidations/wind downs, as well as a portfolio of securities (equity and debt instruments) historically received in exchange for loans through a restructuring process. SCG also advises and assists internal deal teams in structuring of stressed and distressed credit underwritings including new money Debtor-in-Possession and Exit financings.
Job Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of restructuring professionals in overseeing a portfolio of Credit Surveillance Report (CSR) borrowers in both EMEA and Asia-Pacific; interact directly with heads of Credit Risk for both regions. Report to Global Head of SCG based in NY.
  • Manage selected stressed and distressed credits in the role of primary account officer.
  • Advise and partner with internal deal teams including Corporate/FIG/Emerging Markets Credit Risk Management, Coverage, GCB, Leveraged Finance, TS Risk, Legal, Compliance and Secondary Loan trading; review complex legal, financial and jurisdictional issues with an objective of improving credit structures on transactions.
  • Provide leadership to investors, company management, financial advisors, and outside counsel on generating optimal solution for repayment of credit exposure and preserving important client relationships.
  • Manage and contribute to the development and mentorship of more junior restructuring/workout professionals.
  • Lead the credit decision-making process in live stressed/distressed situations on an advisory/managed basis. Present exposure management strategy to senior management, and formulate consequential impact of credit actions on CIB projected credit costs.
  • Oversee preparation of valuations on securities/ other instruments received from previous restructurings and formulate trading and disposal strategies.
  • Lead the wholesale regulatory, accounting and risk reporting agenda as well as SCG specific activities, such as Rapid Exposure Drill (RED) process and Problem Credit Management Playbooks. Provide feedback on reports going to senior management (distressed/bankruptcy reports, wholesale credit costs forecasts, etc.).
  • 10 years+ of Credit Risk and/or Leveraged Finance experience.
  • 10 years+ of relevant Restructuring experience (including multi-jurisdictional aspects) including: previous exposure to managing large lending syndicates as member of creditors committee; management of post-restructuring instruments; and network of contacts at major restructuring advisory and law firms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, and build bridges across teams, LOBs, product areas and geographies.
  • Demonstrated prior leadership role in a wholesale firm-wide project (regulatory/CCAR or otherwise).
  • First rate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure in a demanding environment.
