Group description:
CIB Market Risk Management is an independent risk group, reporting to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), which identifies, measures, monitors and controls market risk. The group forms the key interface for discussing risk issues with the trading desks but retains independent reporting lines through the Risk management chain.
CIB Market Risk performs the following primary functions:
  • Independent ongoing identification, monitoring and control of business unit market risk
  • Performance of stress testing and qualitative risk assessments
  • Analysis of aggregated risks and tail risk exposure
  • Facilitation of efficient risk-return decisions
  • Regular dialogue with the trading businesses with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.
  • CIB Market Risk Coverage for Currencies and Emerging Markets (CEM) Latin America business



  • Coverage of CEM Latam business based in New York across a broad spectrum of fixed income derivatives
  • Monitor risk exposures, understand the factors that drive the risk and P&L of the books, follow market movement/activities affecting positions, highlight and discuss risk changes and top risks
  • Understand and monitor various risk measures such as Value at Risk (VaR) and Firm-wide Stress Initiative (FSI), explain drivers of changes, and ensure consistent approach globally
  • Highlight concentrated or concerning risk positions and work with business to ensure appropriate reporting, transparency and management
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses (including notable new transactions) in order to assist decision making
  • Define and monitor market risk limit framework; work with trading desk to ensure compliance
  • Work with the Front Office, Finance, Valuation Control Group, Quantitative Research, Model Governance Group for all risk management issues
  • Critically assess control environment to ensure issues are identified early on; propose changes to ensure high standards are maintained in a changing environment
  • Improve risk transparency and methodologies by conducting deep-dives on risks, products and markets

  • Skills/Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Strong analytical & quantitative skills, with a grounding in maths / stats / economics
    • Experience in market risk management / trading / research is preferred
    • Knowledge of Latin America Fixed Income market is a plus
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
    • Strong time management skill – should be able to work well under pressure managing several time sensitive deadlines
    • Attention to details with understanding of the broader picture
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, must be able to adapt communication style to the  audience and make clear recommendations, as appropriate
    • Proficiency in Excel is required; Knowledge of VBA and Access is preferred
