RESPONSIBILITY (working contacts, employees supervised, control over expenditure & equipment)
  • Generally manage tax risk across all taxes for the China franchise including the tax authority relationships.
  • Leadership /development of the China Corporate Tax team in carrying out all corporate tax technical advisory, compliance and the control / governance agenda.
  • Coverage includes China both onshore and offshore.  
  • Partner with China management team, business unit heads, other support group heads, representation on oversight / governance committees, Corporate Tax leadership team amongst others.

 

OVER ALL PURPOSE OF JOB
Key objectives of your role will include:

  • To establish and maintain a best in class China Tax team which provides expert technical tax advice, robust compliance and strong controls.
  • Ensure frequent and effective interaction with senior management team in China and Corporate Tax leadership team in APAC & globally while carrying out the firm’s corporate tax agenda.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the firm’s business units with key focus on controls and risk management.
  • Manage tax authority and other regulatory relationships as they pertain to corporate taxes. 

 

MAIN ACTIVITIES/TASKS
  • Develop and establish best practice tax management framework, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Drive the technical research, planning and development of tax planning initiatives for the lines of business and corporation in China.
  • Assist business units in the development of new products by providing advice on tax implications including in particular transfer pricing considerations, balancing the needs of the business unit and corporation.
  • Manage local tax audits / examinations.
  • Working closely with local management and outside advisors to address complex tax issues and support other key non tax related initiatives.
  • Effective team and client relationship management, including structured communication with key stakeholders.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experienced senior tax professional with proven business acumen and the credibility / maturity to interact with management, senior business unit personnel, tax authorities and employees at all levels.
  • China market tax experience at a senior level with a strong record of performance.
  • Understanding of regional tax law / practice, US tax principles and international trends / developments (eg, FATCA, CRS, BEPS, etc) is desirable.
  • A master’s degree in accounting and / or law and related work experience (eg, MST, JD, LLM, CPA).  Strong leadership, decision making, creative thinking, management, communication (written and verbal).
  • Applicants must have at least 15 years of relevant professional tax experience in one or more of the following industries: investment banking, trading, private banking, investment management, private equity.
