Application Performance Management Engineer
Architect and implement APM solutions to be deployed across Corporate Technology applications.
  • Act as Product Owner for the Corporate Technology APM platform.
  • Act as the lead engineer for the Monitoring Services team:
    • Identify automation opportunities in all on-boarding and previously on-boarded products
    • Coordinate the setup and application of automation and monitoring tools to ensure coverage of environment and efficient use of tools and automation over manual processes.
    • Data/Analytics – identify and produce dashboards and data extracts to measure and produce analytics that can be used to identify tool/automation enhancements as well as service and efficiency gains.
    • Work with Application teams to identify the proper level of monitoring instrumentation required for a successful DevOps practice.
  • Participate in application/infrastructure capacity planning, trend analysis, and performance forecasting exercises and propose recommendations and solutions to enhance automation and eliminate other manual processes to allow team to scale to demands without exponentially growing the team.
  • Provide strategic Service and Tool consulting to customers/stakeholders to ensure services align with need.
  • Provide input and recommendations to the monitoring solutions development team - to enhance tool performance and service.
Key responsibilities:
  • APM Product Owner responsibilities:
    • Keep the platform up to date with the latest releases/patches.
    • Champion new functionality as it is introduced to the environment.
    • Escalate issues or product enhancement requests to the vendor as needed.
    • Follow all JPMC standards and guidelines for application and infrastructure management
 Department level responsibilities:
  • Define and deliver automated solutions against core business objectives and department operating model.
  • Participate with the definition of Key Performance Indicators levels
    • Participates in operational issues, meetings and projects – to ensure knowledge of day-to-day tasks and issues faced by the team. This includes on-boarding efforts – to maintain awareness of tool and service enhancement needs.
    • Coordinate reporting and dashboard development – allowing self-service reporting to the internal customers served.
    • Identify and remediate Risk in every on-board and service catalog adjustment.
    • Meets regularly with the teams supporting tools within the Bank – I.E. GTI Monitoring tools teams, BI Tools, Support Tools (ServiceNow, HPSM, Button, etc.)
  • Provides technical oversight to infrastructure, application, and project teams to ensure services are implemented as designed or improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in designing, building, implementing, and supporting Application Performance Management tools.
  • Ten+ years of Application Development and / or Solutions Engineering or Design experience specifically in the Application Monitoring, Performance Engineering, User Experience Monitoring, and Capacity Management related disciplines.
  • Advanced to Expert knowledge in various Monitoring tools, such as:
    • APM tools (AppDynamics, DynaTrace, Wily, Instana, New Relic, etc.)
    • Synthetic or UE tools (AppDynamics End User Monitoring, Apica, BSM/Topaz, Gomez/Keynote, etc.)
  • Broad knowledge of multiple UNIX OS platforms and Windows-based operating systems: deep understanding of supporting technologies in SAN, Backup, Middleware, Database, and surrounding infrastructure support technologies.
  • Advanced scripting ability (Linux shell, Windows PowerShell, etc.)
  • Broad knowledge of advanced environment monitoring & management tools, performance modeling tools, capacity analysis tools, and other advanced modeling and trending tools.
  • Broad Technical background with varied experience in:
    • Web Server technologies, such as: Apache, Java, .Net.
    • Managing Database Technologies (MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.) and Data modeling.
    • Software development experience – JAVA and/or .Net technologies.
    • Experience developing and supporting applications on Public and Private Cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services, Cloudfoundry, etc.).
    • Splunk / Elastic Search (and other data visualization tool sets)
    • Overall IT experience in a Client-Server environment, with practical knowledge of distributed and desktop technologies.
    • Infrastructure architecture & engineering experience, including functional and technical requirements gathering, and solution development.
  • Advanced written and oral communication capabilities, ability to influence and successfully interface with executive leadership.
  • Experience managing vendor relations, support processes, and contract/licensing negotiations
