To provide legal advisory and transactional support to J.P. Morgan’s securities business in China. The position is based in Shanghai or Beijing and will report to the Head of China Legal. 
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Serving as the lead lawyer to advise business on all legal and regulatory matters in relation to the current and future securities business of J.P. Morgan.
  • Review and advise on new product initiatives and develop product documentation templates.
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of contracts with customers and counterparties.
  • Assist in developing standard form documentation, policies and procedures, and review and propose changes to the same to ensure that they remain appropriate in light of legal, regulatory and market developments.
  • Control the quality and cost of legal services provided by external law firms and select and instruct external law firms.
  • Represent Legal in management and other governance meetings.
  • Attend to corporate secretarial matters.
  • Collaborate with country/regional/global teams to provide legal support to cross border deals, cross-line-of-business matters and/or regional and global projects.
  • Provide legal training to enhance general legal awareness and minimize the legal risks associated with the firm’s securities business.
Other responsibilities required to be performed by the legal function from time to time.

  • PRC qualified securities lawyer with at least 12 years of post-qualification legal experience (preferably, a combination of experience as an in-house counsel in the financial services industry and as a lawyer in a top-tier law firm)
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the securities industry in China
  • Transactions management experience required
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills
  • Strong leadership skills; able to work with senior management and lead initiatives involving multiple lines of business and support functions
  • Able to communicate well and a good team player to work in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues timely and appropriately
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and respond to business needs and goals
  • English and Chinese fluency (both written and oral) required
