This position is responsible for leading the Midwest Escrow Middle Office team based in Chicago.   The team’s primary responsibilities include escrow contract negotiation, new account set-up, business related projects, ongoing escrow account administration, including customer service, cash movement, claims handling and fee billing. The Team Leader is responsible for leading these efforts in a risk controlled manner that is commercially focused and helps drive new business through strong client satisfaction and employee engagement.

 

This position reports directly to the Regional Manager of the Escrow Middle Office. This position partners very closely with Escrow Product Management, Sales, Operations, Legal, Tax, Compliance and Risk Management in driving results.

 
New Business Activities:
  • Understand the business purpose and deal structure for new business opportunities and implement escrow solutions that drive repeat business
  • Provide strong customer service by responding quickly to client requests, offering solutions to client needs, and developing meaningful client relationships
  • Lead team in the review and negotiation of escrow contracts. Ensure that team is well informed and trained on all critical JPMorgan legal standards. Negotiation must occur swiftly in a proactive and professional manner that balances both flexibility/ease of doing business to meet the client’s needs and the preservation of JPMorgan’s risk profile to protect the bank
  • Partner with sales to seamlessly onboard new clients and assist in generating new business through positive interaction with existing clients and referral sources.  Take ownership of client relationships
  • Ensure that client satisfaction rates meet or exceed expectations via regular and active participation with clients (including law firms)
  • Meet business demands in a rapid transactional environment with a highly responsive service
  • Identify ways to improve processes/procedures to enhance quality and/or productivity
  • Optimize account profitability by maximizing JPMorgan fee and investment revenue opportunities
 
Leadership/Management Activities:
  • Strong ability to manage a variety of concurrent priorities including client needs, employee development, operational issues  and ongoing projects
  • Resolve issues escalated by team members
  • Willingness to manage independently, but escalate where appropriate.
  • Manage in a manner that promotes employee engagement and delegate assignments appropriately
  • Empower employees to own client relationships and issues, while providing the proper level of guidance and support

  • Strategically align resources to match competencies and maximize efficiencies
  • Monitor work progress through systematic reporting features
  • Develop strong working relationships with Product, Sales, Operations, Legal, Tax, Compliance and Risk
  • Provide ongoing recruitment, development of talent and career mobility support in managing staff
  • Offer calming influence and support to staff amidst fast pace, stressful environment
 
Risk Management:
  • Display a well-honed ability to assess the risk factors of escrow transactions, including client risk, operational risk, reputational risk or otherwise
  • Ensure deal information is set up on all operating systems and contractual obligations denoted
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) within acceptable ranges
  • Ensure that account set-ups, ticklers, overdrafts, balances, accounts receivables and other key metrics are managed appropriately.
  • Escalate issues to management as well as legal, risk and compliance partners, as appropriate
  • Maintain working knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Serve as subject matter expert on all operating systems
  • Firm understanding of USA PATRIOT ACT requirements
Escrow Operations:
  • Partner with operations team to execute core operational components of the escrow business.   This responsibility requires extensive knowledge of the following:
    • Account Set-ups and terminations
    • Cash processing, including wire transfer systems and check processing
    • Handling escrow claim and objection processing
    • Investments
    • Securities processing  (book-entry/physical, equity and debt)
    • Online system capabilities via JPMorgan ACCESS

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance or Management (Masters degree or legal experience preferred)
  • 10-15 years work experience in financial services environment; trust, escrow or treasury services experience preferred
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Strong sales and customer service orientation
  • Strong document review, negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi- task in a fast paced environment
