The Equities trading desk is a centralized dealing desk with operations in New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Taiwan and China and executes over one trillion dollars per year representing 1% of all equities traded in the world.  The desk handle a wide spectrum of trading styles from a high number of small orders to a small number of high value orders.  The trading desk is regarded as an industry leader and was voted Best Buy-side Equity Trading desk in the Markets Choice awards in 2016.

The technology team is a team of 40 around the globe, who work in close proximity to the trading desk, delivering a global, award winning, trading platform in an Agile way.  The team is on a mission to turn trading from and art to a science using technology. 

The role is for a lead of the Equities Trading Technology team in the Americas reporting to the managing director who runs equities trading technology globally. The individual will directly manage a team of 8 technologists and will be involved in coordinating work across the wider team of equities technologists both regionally and globally.  The individual should be a passionate technologist who is adept at working in a modern development team which interacts directly with the business and deliver change on a daily basis. 

Personal skills

  • Team leadership: a track record of building and managing small, globally distributed, high performing technology teams that work in close proximity to the business.
  • Project management: experience of running projects in an Agile way with multiple competing priorities with projects ranging from days to months, with a preference for short timescales.  All team members are expected to be involved in the full lifecycle from understanding requirements, through implementation, testing, delivery and support.
  • Technology management and leadership: highly effective in large corporate technology divisions.  Has demonstrated the ability to leveraging and coordinate teams across a large organisation, influence the direction of other teams to deliver results that fit the goals of the team and the corporate standards.

 

Technical skills

  • A track record of leading teams that build and deliver, large-scale, real-time electronic trading systems. 
  • A background of hands on development in at least one object oriented language. 
  • Experience of managing vendor relationships.
  • Deep knowledge of the equities domain.
  • Experience of working in a DevOps way.
