The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated, results-oriented transactional lawyer to join the EMEA Intellectual Property, Technology & Privacy Practice Group (the “Tech Legal Group”) supporting the Corporate Investment Bank and other lines of business. The candidate will report directly to an Executive Director/Assistant General Counsel in the Tech Legal Group.  This role will primarily handle the structuring, drafting, negotiation and analysis of agreements for the acquisition of services, licensed materials and goods but will also be responsible for advising on the full range of matters within the EMEA team’s remit.


The Tech Legal Group consists of legal professionals who provide legal support for the firm's technology and other transactions, intellectual property management, third party provider oversight, risk and controls, IP litigation and sourcing and procurement operations.  This group is entrepreneurial and innovative in structuring transactions in a way to seek maximum benefit for JPMorgan Chase.  This group works closely with internal clients, serving as a valuable business partner in addressing risks expeditiously and achieving clients’ goals within the parameters of JPMorgan Chase policy and procedure.


Department Description


The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organised by Practice Groups that conform to the organisation of the firm’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas and for the lines of business and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal teams in a timely manner.



The candidate will primarily: 

  • Structure, draft and negotiate various technology, intellectual property and other agreements, such as software and maintenance agreements, ASP and cloud agreements, equipment purchase/maintenance agreements, outsourcing agreements and professional services agreements

  • Provide technology and intellectual property law advice to internal clients and various partners (e.g., line of business Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Risk, Controls, Sourcing)

  • Advise on market data licences

  • Advise on vendor-facing privacy issues, together with Privacy Legal colleagues

  • Provide advice on emerging technologies, such as blockchain and participation in related industry consortia

  • Be expected to develop and maintain robust client relationships, assisting clients with various legal issues and providing advice with respect to the interpretation of rights and responsibilities identified in agreements



• Significant relevant in-house experience in the financial services industry and/or technology industry strongly preferred

• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills

• Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking

• Demonstration of successful client management partnering

• Flexibility and organisational ability to manage a large volume of transactions and projects simultaneously, in a high-performance environment

• Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels

• Self starter capable of working autonomously and strongly motivated

• Excellent academic credentials preferred; qualified in a relevant jurisdiction as per JPMC policy

• In-depth experience in contract law, with broad transactional background in technology licensing, purchasing and services agreements
