Senior Infrastructure Operations Developer for RELIABILITY ENGINEERING

The Infrastructure Operations Developer is a highly visible and impactful role that pro-actively drives system operations to increase and improve system stability, performance, and reliability. This person will work with our architects, and infrastructure software engineering teams to design, build, and own functional and non-functional operational metrics, events, monitors and alerts, and providing visualization.
 
Infrastructure Operations Developer will automate fault detection, containment, and resolution for systems engineering without customer impact or human intervention. Automation also includes software development for metrics and event collection/correlation across distributed architectures, automation, monitoring, intelligent alerting, random fault injection, and self-healing. Working in an Agile DevOps model with Architecture, Operations, Application Development and Infrastructure engineers, they ensure that the developed solutions address functional and non-functional requirements:
 
Major Responsibilities include:
  • Act as a 2nd/3rd line support for incidents, problems, and changes to solutions and services
  • Provide specialist technical support and assistance to projects ensuring delivery of non-functional requirements and to continual service improvement.
  • Responsible for preparations and support of IT operations solutions and services  according to industry and organizational best practices standards, service level requirements (SLA) and key performance Indicators (KPI) throughout the lifecycle
  • Monitor Storage Tools Team suite of Products
  • Plan and Build Operational Metrics such as reads, writes, latency, errors, success, i/o, disk, memory, network bandwidth, noise, security, 50x/40x HTTP errors, etc.,
  • Build Logging and Operational tools, Smart Dashboards to pinpoint exact root cause of production problems and bottlenecks in a distributed environment
  • Compare against Best practices for tuning system operational metrics for productive, reliable, resilient performance of product stack
  • Intelligently know when and where our product stack needs attention before it compromises performance to our end users.
  • Define alerts for any metric and customize trigger rules to avoid alert-fatigue. Assign alerts to specific team members.
  • Proactive Remediation - Identify issues that have yet to bubble to the surface avoiding system downtime/failures.
  • Real-Time Analytics - Manage the overall health of our system at-a-glance, in real-time.
  • Service and Operational Level Agreements

This position is anticipated to require the use of one or more High Security Access (HSA) systems.  Users of these systems are subject to enhanced screening which includes both criminal and credit background checks, and/or other enhanced screening at the time of accepting the position and on an annual basis thereafter.  The enhanced screening will need to be successfully completed prior to commencing employment or assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:
 
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical field of study/equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience, focusing primarily on designing and building automation frameworks using one or more object oriented programming languages and or scripting.
  • Minimum of 5 years application support experience.  Storage operational experience in one or more of SAN, NAS and/or Backup Technologies or associated applications is preferred.
    • Experience running multiple Storage Applications in a fast moving, mission-critical, large scale, global, (preferably financial services) operational environment
    • Linux/Unix and Microsoft Windowsoperating system support
    • Shell Scripts (Bourne shell, Korn shell, PowerShell), Java/C/C++/Python/OOP
    • Developing monitoring tools and log analysis tools to manage operations
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, relational Database, DBMS
  • Best practices in infrastructure and application logging, monitoring, intelligent alerting, and automated self-healing
  • Strong curiosity and bias for pro-active planning, action, ownership, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to cultivate relationships with all internal/external stakeholders, promoting diversity of perspectives, ideas and cultures.
  • Strong technical knowledge with EMC storage tools ESRS, SE, ViPR, SRM and UniSphere, Smart IQ
  • 3+ years Cisco/Brocade Storage Switches/Directors and Fabric tools (DCNM/BNA)
  • Strong technical knowledge with NetApp OCI (SANScreen), DFM, Performance Advisor
  • Strong technical knowledge with HDS storage reporting tools HiCommand, Tuning Manager, Storage Navigator Modular and HiTrack
     
Preferred Skills:
  • Full life cycle experience within an Agile framework
  • Experience across SAN, NAS and Backup technologies, including EMC, HDS, Netapp
  • Mission critical systems experience in a globally distributed framework
  • Experience with DevOps model and tools
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering
