Position Description

The Mortgage Underwriting Analysts support the Wealth Management Mortgage Operations business.  The team is responsible for analyzing highly complex client financial documentation, data spreading, reading through financial documents, calculating ratios, etc and thus assisting the Underwriter, stateside, to take informed decision on a loan application in compliance with the internal Credit policy.

 

The Mortgage Underwriting Analyst is responsible for working through complex financial profiles, underwriting, and applying necessary conditions to ensure the borrower meets program specifications. The role requires a knowledge of residential mortgage underwriting. The Underwriting Analyst is responsible for the analysis of submitted files for repayment capacity, capital/assets, character, collateral and property condition, while adhering to credit underwriting guidelines.  The Underwriting Analyst supports and upholds fair lending practices of J.P. Morgan Chase, and are responsible for productivity targets ensuring the highest quality and level of client satisfaction.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Applies knowledge of mortgage process and J.P. Morgan credit underwriting guidelines

·         Displays client service excellence

·         Demonstrates proficiency in the review of loan underwriting documentation to ensure compliance with mortgage underwriting guidelines (e.g. loan documents, appraisals, etc)

·         Demonstrates proficiency in analyzing extremely complex financial information including calculation of income and debt ratios, verification of assets, collateral review and credit review

·         Resolves difficult and challenging problems by identifying potential or innovative solutions, determines documentation deficiencies within review and communicates findings with clarity

·         Keeps up to date on all credit policy changes that impact underwriting

·         Applies relevant technical and computer expertise

·         Adheres to all J.P. Morgan fair lending practices

·         Highly developed verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent teamwork with internal employees and external customers/business partners.

·         Achieves and exceeds work goals for productivity, quality and turnaround time

·         Prioritizes workflows

 

Technical Skills:

·         Attention to detail and accuracy with strong analytical and problem solving skills

·         Familiarity with tax returns, reports, and financial statements

·         Credit/Underwriting experience preferred

·         Demonstrated computer skills

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

 

 

Qualifications:

·         Excellent analytical and decision making skills

·         Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a financial institution with exposure to financial documents

·         Knowledge of complex personal and business financial analysis and an expertise in tax return, balance sheet analysis, including cash flow and self-employment income analysis

·         Knowledge in all levels of mortgage underwriting including jumbo mortgages preferred

·         Ability to work independently with little supervision

·         Bachelor degree in accounting or business related degree preferred

·         All hired applicants must achieve a passing score on both a written & multiple choice underwriting certification after completion of the formalized training

·         Proficient in organizing, priority setting, and issues management

·         Suggest process enhancements, possible automations for better controls, perform periodic risk and controls analysis with the team for process risk valuation

·         Willing to work in NA / EMEA schedules
