JPM Private Investments (PI) brings together the Strategic and Heritage Private Equity (HPE) investing activities of the firm into a single center of investing excellence. PI has approximately 40 professionals located across New York, Chicago, London and Hong Kong.
Strategic Investments (SI) supports the firm’s businesses and corporate functions in making strategically impactful investments that also provide acceptable return profiles. Specifically, the role of the SI team is to collaborate with the sponsoring LOB to identify, diligence, structure, negotiate, close, monitor and divest investments. Critically, the balance sheet, capital and P&L belong to the LOBs. Sponsors within the applicable LOB own the strategic investment positions with support from the SI team. The SI team actively manages a portfolio of over 130 investments with a carrying value to JPMC of ~ $2 bn. Although most investments are held by the Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB), the SI portfolio contains investments across all LOBs.
Private Equity (HPE) supports the activities of the Heritage One Equity
Partners and Heritage JPM Partners portfolios and ensures they are subject to a
consistent control and governance framework.
The HPE team oversees an orderly wind-down of the portfolio while
maximizing returns to JPM and its third party investors.
The PI Associate will partner with Investment Professionals, Finance, Valuation Control Group (VCG), Compliance and Risk to support the business. Key activities include participating in the analytics and the preparation of the valuations and portfolio management presentations for the Strategic and HPE portfolio companies, producing key management reports, on-boarding new and legacy strategic investments and proactively looking for opportunities to streamline processes. The Associate will also assist in maintaining a strong risk and control environment by participating in the RCSA process, quarterly control committee meetings, annual Sponsor Attestation process, and ensuring key PI procedures are consistently understood and followed by the team, with documents updated and maintained as necessary. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide a high standard of business management support to the Private Investments team
Produce management reporting for PI senior management as well as JPMC LOB sponsors (including Balance Sheet, P&L, pipeline, performance metrics, etc)
Participate in the analytics and the preparation of the valuations and portfolio management presentations for the Strategic and HPE portfolio companies
Coordinate with Principal Risk, Oversight & Controls, Valuations Control Group and other business managers to drive the PI team agenda
Assist with annual RCSA (Risk and Control Self Assessment) process including inherent risk identification and ratings, and control identification and testing
Assist with annual Sponsor Attestation process and other PI-driven control processes
Develop ad-hoc analyses and deep dive reviews for senior management as necessary
3 - 5 years Finance and/or Business Management experience
Excellent MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills
Comfortable liaising with business managers and controllers, as well as leveraging existing relationships and networks within JPMC F&BM where possible
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment and work with senior and junior members of the team
Self-starter, highly organized, intellectually curious with strong technical, problem solving, and project management skills
Detail oriented and results-driven
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Interest in principal investing
