Global Reference Data Operations is an organization in within the firmwide CAO that provides data governance and operational utilities for core reference and master data that is used across the firm’s LOBs. Over the last year and half, the Chief Data Office has established strong data governance across the firm, including the External Parties domain, which is responsible for cross-LOB definitions of critical data elements (CDEs) for all of the significant external party types that reside in the firm’s reference data systems, including Customer, Issuer, Client Controller, Account Controller, and Exchange.


The Data Steward role is responsible for gathering and documenting critical data elements (CDEs) and requirements within the External Parties Data Domain in support of the Client Central product team.   The Data Steward ensures that all progress in the CDE Lifecycle is correctly documented and reported, and that any issues are promptly escalated and addressed. The role will play a strong part in defining and driving the strategic development of Client Central 2.0 and related logical data model. This role reports directly to the External Parties Data Steward.



  • Define specific CDE business definition values, in partnership with the Client Central product development team and/or business process owners within the External Parties Data Domain

  • Coordinate with business process stakeholders to ensure that the proper business context and impact are considered in discussions regarding specific CDEs

  • Collaborate with LOB-aligned CDO personnel, such as Data Domain Leads and Data Stewards within the External Parties Data Domain to prepare the deliverables associated with each stage of the CDE Lifecycle (i.e., new elements, change requests, certification requests) for review and approval by the External Parties Data Domain Manager

  • Prepare materials for review in the External Parties Domain Working Group (DWG); document DWG decisions/discussions and update the DataBook tool accordingly

  • Track stakeholder sign-off within DataBook and escalate to the External Parties Data Domain Steward or Manager, if necessary

  • Represent External Parties Data Management team with the Client Central Product team and provide data management support as required 

  • Collaborate with the Business Intelligence Product Development team to understand business needs, analyze production data, and deliver it to the reference data utility (CRDU)  




  • Bachelor’s degree and project management experience, preferably in managing cross-LOB/functional projects and collaborating with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong, precise written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to drive consensus across multiple LOBs and stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and motivations

  • Subject matter expertise with retail and/or wholesale processes, External Parties (including Customer, Issuers, Exchanges) reference data, reference data operational processes, and data lifecycle activities is preferred but not mandatory

  • Experience with data modeling concepts (e.g., ER diagrams, taxonomies, etc.) – familiarity with SQL and other data query and data analysis tools and techniques is a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand business and technical functions, process information quickly, and assess impacts to data elements

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills

  • Highly organized, as the role requires keeping up with multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to prioritize and manage expectations
