CIB Market Risk Management is an independent risk group, reporting to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), which identifies, measures, monitors and controls market risk. The group forms the key interface for discussing risk issues with the trading desks but retains independent reporting lines through the Risk management chain. CIB Market Risk performs the following primary functions:

  • Independent ongoing identification, monitoring and control of business unit market risk
  • Performance of stress testing and qualitative risk assessments
  • Analysis of aggregated risks and tail risk exposure
  • Facilitation of efficient risk-return decisions
  • Regular dialogue with the trading businesses with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.

Job Description

CIB Market Risk is seeking for an associate covering Americas Equity Derivatives Flow and Delta One in the Global Equities division. The desk strategy includes Index, Single Stock and VIX marketing making, Event Driven Flow, Dispersion and Algorithmic Trading. The successful candidate will be part of the CIB Market Risk Coverage team based in New York. 


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding the driver of VaR, Stress, Risk and P&L; highlighting changes to senior management on key drivers
  • Monitoring of market risk limits and providing independent assessment on limit requests.
  • Participating in global risk calls and proactively provides market update.
  • Assisting in pre-trade review of transactions that against Market Risk PTG guidelines

  • Conducting Market Risk deep-dives analysis to understand the market/risk dynamics, identify ways to improve risk transparency and influence the business to adopt proposed changes
  • Quantifying risk exposures proactively by designing stress scenario and evaluating the corresponding impact
  • Improving control environment and risk representation, identifying shortcomings and remediating issues proactively
  • Working closely with Trading, other risk functions such as Quantitative Research, Legal Entity Risk, Market Risk Reporting and various control groups, including Product Control and Valuation Control Group.
  • Participating in review of New Business Initiatives


    • 3+ years of market risk experience or relevant business experience.
    • Bachelor's degree required.  Advanced / Quantitative degree preferred, but not necessary.
    • Basic understanding of derivative products, associated risks and hedging strategies.
    • Ability to work effectively with related functions, including Trading, other risk function and various control group
    • A self-starter with high sense of ownership
    • Eager to learn with strong interest in markets and able to drive initiatives to completion effectively.
    • Good communication and can foster relationships with other risk stripes and the global teams
    • Experience in VaR and Stress testing (including CCAR) is helpful.
    • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work with Access databases is necessary.
