Risk management has never been more important nowadays.  When we generate revenue through lending, trading and capital markets activity, there's always the risk that the return on our investment won't be what we initially expected.  We don't like surprises and neither do our clients.  Our risk managers within the Corporate and Investment Bank see to it that we understand and manage risk effectively to minimize any unexpected results.  Credit risk is the risk of loss if a client fails to honor its obligations.  The Credit Risk team is responsible for controlling the firm's credit risk through the portfolio management exercises and transaction related activities as discussed below.  In addition, recent focus on risk governance across the globe requires us to have broader views on various risks, such as reputational and regulatory risks.  This is an ideal opportunity for a person with strong motivation to work in the evolving financial industry, and to develop the strong risk management skills.
1. Transaction related activities
  • Credit work related to new transactions, including due diligence, credit analytics, writing/preparing credit memo, structuring and credit approval.
  • Working with business in preparing transaction proposal, so that the risk mitigation measures to be incorporated in the proposal.
  • Documentation negotiation
  • Ongoing credit monitoring including exposure control, covenants tracking, collateral etc.
 2.  Portfolio management exercises
  • Ongoing review and monitoring client’s credit, existing exposure and industry/geographic concentrations through periodic / ad-hoc credit reviews.
  • Maintain the accuracy of risk grading (=internally assigned Credit Rating) and update it in a timely manner to reflect the industry/geographical trend as well as risk factors of particular client.
3. Comprehensive Risk Management
  • Client due diligence from a perspective of reputational risk
  • Fulfill the global and local regulatory requirements including implementing the robust risk governance framework and reporting to the regulators
Associates in Credit Risk are expected to play a key role in the credit decision-making through the exercises/activities discussed above, providing credit approval and/or making recommendations based on the risks identified, and identifying mitigation measures to those risks.
  • Business level communication skills in Japanese and in English
  • Knowledge of accounting and corporate finance
  • Basic product knowledge including loan and derivatives
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
