Overview of Role, Team and Line of Business

Exciting opportunity to join a team of three professionals who work in the ABL International team based in Canary Wharf, London. The ABL business reports to the CEO of the Commercial Bank via the Head of Credit Markets & Treasury Management. 
ABL International works with clients in both the Commercial Bank (“CB”) and Corporate and Investment Bank (“CIB”) in a fast moving and growth orientated business key to the international strategy of both the CB and CIB.
The business currently possesses a lending mandate in United States, Canada, 16 European jurisdictions and has recently added certain APAC jurisdictions to its lending capabilities. The existing portfolio within ABL International has 47 client relationships consisting of $18.4bn of total commitments of which JPM commits $3.5bn. The portfolio consists of a mix of bi-lateral and syndicated loans.
Candidates are preferably required to have prior experience in a client relationship, credit risk management and loan execution.
Roles and Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management / Credit
  • Responsibility for the client management of c.20 foreign subsidiary relationships of North American parented clients within the ABL International portfolio.  
  • This will involve being the main point of contact for the; US based Credit Risk Officer, US based Sponsor Banker, International Product Specialists within International Bank and the local International Coverage Executive in region, all responsible for the parent relationship.
  • Specific tasks will include;
    • execution of loan amendments, restatements and extensions for those managed clients;
    • ensure credit risk officers are kept notified of local issues / client interactions;
    • attend client meetings alongside local International Coverage Executives;
    • work with US team on individual client relationship strategy;
    • work to ensure deals are setup correctly on all JPM back office systems (Loan IQ, ABLE) by liaising with Wholesale Loan Services (“WLS”), Internal Legal, Tax, Treasury Services and external legal counsel;
    • liaise with Treasury Services on cash management topics related to ABL setups (Account Pledges, Treasury Schematics, Sweeps, IDL’s and BACA’s).         
      -       Build meaningful internal relationships across all lines of business in both credit risk management, sponsor coverage and asset based lending via focused and consistent networking.  
  • Develop a strong understanding / knowledge of
    • Capital structures;
    • Internal risk rating methodology;
    • Ability to analyse Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Statements;
    • Borrowing Base Modelling;
    • Ability to assess value of collateral via field examination and appraisals, plus liquidity analysis;
    • Ability to negotiate asset based lending credit agreements and security documentation.
  • Monthly reporting of ABL International Portfolio to management with dashboard style reporting focussing on key trends, key risk topics
Origination & Marketing
  • Collaborate with ABL Originations team on new deal opportunities (ABL International typically fields 100 – 150 enquires per annum and during 2017 closed 28 new business transactions).
  • Build a knowledge base over time to be able to advise and structure cross-border asset-based lending structures. This will specifically require building a knowledge base around the bespoke nature of secured lending in our mandated European and APAC jurisdictions.
  • Candidate will be asked periodically to assist in the production of marketing materials and presentation of material to clients and prospects alongside the ABL Originations team.
  • Post sales & marketing, candidates will be asked to assist in the reviewing of term sheets and legal documentation. This role covers an end to end process from initial calling effort to ongoing management of client relationships.

  • Assist in internal risk testing processes as required.
  • Provide support / back-up for the key responsibility of monitoring On-Going Security Perfection.
  • Promote a strong control environment by adhering to risk / control procedures and protocol. Operates within established risk parameters and meets risk compliance obligations. Understands and applies knowledge of role-related risk
  • Holds self and others to the letter and spirit of the Code of Conduct. Remediates control issues in a timely and sustainable manner.
