About the role

The role is for an experienced application support analyst within the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) production support team based in South Africa. The team is responsible for the first line production support of global and locally developed application across various lines of businesses.

This role is part of the Execution Services Production Management team. The Execution Services technology suite underpins the Equities and FX Electronic Trading businesses, and Sales & Trading businesses. It is complex in nature and requires very strong technical skills to successfully support the proprietary technology. The key success criteria are day-to-day support of order routing / risk / market data problems, daily application releases, management of crisis events, and compliance with the eTrading Controls agenda and Market Access regulatory requirements.

Candidates will need to have strong communication and problem management skills along with experience in supporting Linux & Wintel based platforms to be able to effectively diagnose production issues.

Key responsibilities
  • Support of the Equities, CEM and Treasury trading platform, providing Level 1 and Level 2 support to the business and stakeholders.
  • Provide day-to-day technical expertise and operational support to obtain highest degrees of production stability for the various lines of business applications.
  • Support applications for end to end trade lifecycle including algorithmic trading, trade execution and booking, market data, risk management, etc.
  • Establish working relationships with other members of the Production Management team within the organisation globally.
  • Work with Application Development (AD) teams to implement and identify fixes to improve stability, reduce operational risk, and reduce manual tasks and ‘touches to production’.
  • Help in defining capacity and resiliency requirement metrics and failover/BCP capabilities in partnership with business and AD to improve reliability, stability and capacity management.
  • Help monitor and improve monitoring of the trading application suite and proactively fix potential issues.
  • Develop strong partnerships and communication channels with the businesses, AD, and other team members.
  • Manage production technology incidents to resolution, ensuring timely engagement, escalation and effective communication to business, technology and vendor partners. Ensure detailed Post Mortem reviews with AD partners. Provide detailed root cause analysis (RCA) reports  and log follow up actions in Problem Management systems.
  • Engage with project teams through the SDLC of new applications to ensure successful on boarding into Production Management.
  • Participate in weekend activities such as disaster recovery testing, JSE tests / projects, application releases and  monthly weekend start of week checks
  • Database support
  • Global Projects involvement across Equity, Treasury and CEM desks
  • Production systems monitoring, Start of day (SOD) and start of week (SOW) checks
  • Work in Shifts , early shift 7:00 AM, late shift until 6:30 pm.
Education / Qualifications:
Must possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or Technology equivalent.
Technical skills
  • 5+ years experience in application and database production support in financial services industry.
  • Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent incident management skills with an ability to operate under pressure and co-ordinate resources effectively, identifying a path to resolution.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and stored procedures (experience with Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL databases)
  • Excellent knowledge of UNIX (experience with Linux essential)
  • Strong Shell , Python scripting skills
  • Ability to prioritise work load, multi task and react quickly to meet business expectations.
  • Strong working knowledge of real time monitoring systems (ITRS)
  • Financial Product knowledge and JSE products experience would be advantageous
