Country Risk Management Group:
The Country Risk Management group is an independent risk management function which works in close partnership with other risk functions to identify and monitor country risk within the Firm.  Country Risk Management is part of Corporate Risk Management, reporting to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer.  Country Risk Management is responsible for the following:
  • Developing guidelines and policies consistent with a comprehensive country risk framework
  • Assigning sovereign ratings and assessing country risks.
    • Analyzing economic and political risks the firm faces as a result of its activities worldwide and assigning internal sovereign credit ratings to countries to which the firm has exposure.  
  • Measuring and monitoring country risk exposure and stress across the Firm
  • Managing country limits and reporting trends and limit breaches to senior management
  • Developing surveillance tools for early identification of potential country risk concerns
  • Providing country risk scenario analysis
Project/Job description:
The qualified candidate will be joining the Country Risk team with a focus on methodology, governance and controls.  Primary responsibilities will include support of the Office of Legal Obligation (OLO) program; developing, reviewing and justifying methodology leveraged for Country Risk’s NMEMs, Models and User Tools;  point person on various control development initiatives; development and documentation of methodologies specific to Country Risk; engagement on various data quality issues and link into our functional partners.  Coordinate across risk stripes (Market Risk, Credit Risk, etc) and front line functions on various risk initiatives.
  • Support the Country Risk Management team in the development, organization and execution of the OLO program
  • Development of Country Risk NMEM governance and framework; ability to operate as an independent reviewer
  • Engagement with Market Risk, Credit Risk and front line partners
  • Development of bespoke stress governance and framework
  • Responsible for limit governance framework
  • CCAR country specific scenario governance
  • Assist in other Country Risk Management projects as needed
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree and work experience in the financial industry
  • Seasoned in supporting execution in large scale programs
  • Outstanding listening and negotiation skills as well as being a strong written and verbal communicator
  • Prior experience in risk preferred
  • Effective organizational and project management skills; able to manage multiple work streams and processes
  • Ability to structure and scope complex problems
  • Team-oriented nature with clear project ownership mentality; ability to work with multiple stakeholders including with Reporting, Technology and Middle Office
  • Excellent attention to detail and diligent at follow up
  • Pro-active attitude, intellectually curious, creative and self-motivated
