The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.

 

The Office of the Secretary (“OTS”) is a practice group within the Legal Department.  OTS partners with senior management, control groups, lines of business and corporate units to promote effective governance of the Firm, its branches, subsidiaries, and affiliates. It operates through a corporate team and regional hubs, in New York City, London (for Europe, the Middle East and Africa), and Hong Kong (for Asia Pacific).  OTS also works closely with the Firm’s Board of Directors and is responsible for the coordination of Board meetings and materials.  OTS has responsibility for the Firm’s proxy statement as well as various other public filings and interfaces regularly with JPMC’s shareholders on governance matters.  In addition, members of the practice group are involved in various industry initiatives to consider best practices for the banking industry as a whole.  


Position Overview
OTS is looking for a bright, organized, and talented individual to fill an entry-level professional position that, for a high performer, offers significant opportunities for learning and professional development over time.  The position will support senior executives within OTS, and other members of the team, with a variety of professional matters.  Typical examples of this work include performing basic research, collaboratively gathering information from around OTS and other teams within the Firm, analyzing data (including the use of Excel spreadsheets), assisting with plans for the Firm’s annual meeting of shareholders, and preparing highest-quality presentation materials (including PowerPoint decks) for audiences of senior executives and senior lawyers.  The role includes interaction with various executive-level internal clients across lines of business (e.g, the Corporate & Investment Bank, Asset and Wealth Management), corporate functions (e.g., Finance, Corporate Communications, Investor Relations), and regions.  The duties require confidentiality, initiative, sound decision-making, independent judgment, and the ability to recognize and escalate serious or unique problems.  The role also includes some administrative duties, particularly those types of administrative duties typically performed by analyst-level employees.  These might include scheduling meetings and appointments, logistics coordination and management of certain projects, managing travel schedules, preparing electronic and hard-copy documents, developing and maintaining electronic files, proofreading, and reserving conference rooms as necessary.  The successful candidate must have strong analytical and collaborative skills, be able to work independently and be a true "self starter."


Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a professional services role, such as a business analyst, paralegal, researcher, writer, or clerk.
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
