The Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) Retail network group is responsible for the operational support of the JP Morgan Chase Retail Branch & Automated Teller Machine (ATM) network. The GNOC engineer will work in a team that operates 24x7 in providing monitoring and maintenance of the Retail Network infrastructure. The role is technical and requires experience in network and application support.
The GNOC Retail support engineer primary mission is to engage on break/fix issues affecting the firms Retail Network with a goal of rapid restoration of services. The engineer will provide firsthand knowledge of the networks supporting the bank and utilize a set of run books that have quicker response, escalation, and resolution targets.
  • Monitor latency, bandwidth utilization, and the general condition of the Wide Area Network (WAN); reporting on problems affecting the retail branches and ATM devices
  • Utilize run books that foster quicker response, escalation, and resolution targets.
  • Utilize tools such as ‘Smarts’, Sniffers, ‘NetCool’, ‘NASH’, ‘Concord’, ‘SevOne’, and ‘Splunk’ for improved network support.
  • Create event tickets affecting the retail network and work within an accelerated Service level Agreement (SLA) time for repair.
  • Perform appropriate escalations as needed to Management, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Tier 3 Network team.
  • Support post incident restoral work through approved change windows.
  • Work closely with the Operate teams to drive and coordinate a planned repair/restore and provide email status of the work.
  • Support a daily network Start of Day End of Day (SOD/EOD) calls globally
  • Interface with the Retail Line of Business and technology vendors on infrastructure products
  • Perform a daily set of scripted reach-ability checks and tests across the network
  • Partners with Global Services Delivery support teams for continuous Improvement on process, procedure and day to day operations.
  • Interface with Line of Business Command Centers for swift actions on critical issues, with a goal of minimizing impact and reduced Mean Time to Recover (MTTR).
  • Partners with Vendors for escalations and improved incident resolution MTTR
  • Identify potential automation opportunities for greater efficiency in operation support
  • Work with developers to help automate network infrastructure support
  • Develop scripts and dashboards to improve operational efficiencies
  • Perform day-to-day management of workload and projects
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in IT covering operations functions.
  • Experience working in a banking, exchange or technology type environment within a global organization.
  • Expertise of networking fundamentals including: network topology, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), routing, global/local load balancing, firewalls, wireless networking, etc
  • Experience in Protocol Analyzers (‘Endace’, ‘Apcon’, ‘Wireshark’, ‘OpNet’)
  • Experience in capacity management tools (Concord, SevOne)
  • Minimum one year of Software Engineering experience developing enterprise wide web based (intranet) applications using Python, or other object oriented language like C#, C++, Java, etc.
  • Solid design, coding, testing and debugging skills
  • Strong experience in prioritization, process and problem analysis.
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Strong work ethic in a mission-critical 24x7 diverse environment with multiple vendor/customer relationships.
  • Must be flexible, hands on and able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, client-focused and collaborative environment
  • Manage problems and follow up on incidents and write incident reports
