Our business:
Newly formed Global Special Situations team within the Alternatives Division of JPMorgan Asset Management. The business was recently started with the view to form a global Private and Opportunistic Credit business focusing on Event Driven, Stressed, Special Situations and Distressed Debt credit opportunities. The business is looking to raise and invest external investor funds across the credit spectrum.

The opportunity is to join the situational research team as a Senior Research analyst jointly reporting to the Co-CIO’s of the business. This role may include the management of other individuals and will likely include interaction with investors in the fund.

The business is seeking a European (London) based analyst with significant experience in financial valuation and / or credit analysis. 5 - 15 years in leveraged finance, stressed, distressed investing is a must. This is an Executive Director level hire. The business would consider very strong Vice President level candidates if their experience matches the business needs. Language skills whilst not a necessity would be accretive.
The candidate must be accustomed to working independently and generating ideas for the portfolio and capable of managing a position from sourcing through to exit (with buy and sell recommendations throughout). The Candidate should have deep product knowledge for the relevant instruments the fund will target including (but not limited to): Senior Secured Loans, Public and Private Bonds, Liquidations, Equity (post re-organization and new equity).
The candidate will work with all members of the team both in London and NY (CIOs, other analysts, COO/middle office team) to collaborate on a finished product to drive risk decisions, source investing ideas as well as analysis required for the initial formation and fund raising of the business.
The candidate will have additional responsibilities of working with, managing and training junior members of the research team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and analyze new investment ideas that meet the investment criteria and philosophy of the fund.
  • Independently manage credits (performing and distressed) including producing commentary and analysis to identify profitable trading opportunities and prevent losses
  • Once assigned a credit, the analyst will be expected to maintain financial reporting models (as new numbers are released) and become familiar with each credit’s governing Credit Agreement, Bond Indentures and contractual obligations in order to analyze financial performance and identify investment opportunities. In addition, the analyst will manage inventory positions for all proposed changes to credits including amendments, waivers and repricing
  • The analyst will be responsible for keeping track of maintaining the appropriate database of documents to ensure the team has proper information available for the investments of the fund including:
    o One pager library
    o Legal and Company reporting database
  • The analyst is expected to possess a strong network among a wide range of market counterparts including legal, financial and restructuring advisors, banks and companies

Essential Skills:

  • Seasoned investment professional with deep knowledge of the European credit markets
  • Ability to work independently and represent the fund in workout or creditor negotiations
  • Strong independent network of relationships across advisors and other market participants
