The manager selection team is responsible for selecting and monitoring asset managers for Global Wealth Management clients. This will include communicationns with asset managers, internal investors and clients considering the use of an asset manager in an investment program.  The team researches asset classes across equity, fixed income, commodities, and liquid alternatives.  The team is global and works closely with London based colleagues in building and maintaining a full product suite to serve our global client base.
 
This role will report to the Head of Liquid Alternatives - Manager Selection and will be responsible for primary coverage on Long/Short Equity managers: 
  • Directing new manager searches, while conducting continued research on ongoing platform managers
  • Develop a relationship with asset managers to facilitate general communications specific to industry trends
  • Provide thought leadership on asset class
  • Understand and communicate the impact of including a particular manager or strategy in a multiple asset or multiple manager structure
  • Interact with portfolio construction and strategy to ensure strategies reflect current investment thinking 
  • Articulate how the manager selection process functions and how both external and proprietary strategies fit the private bank strategy for internal and external audiences
  • Coordinate with Bankers and Investors through the JPM network on client matters
 
The attributes of the Asset Class Leader in Manager Selection include:
  • Experience within asset management; equity research, credit research and/or portfolio management
  • Deep understanding of a broad range of financial and investment principles
  • Must convey knowledge and credibility in front of the managers and investors
  • Able to draw out information through good listening and questioning skills
  • Solid grasp of the mathematical principles underlying the models used to develop portfolio recommendations for clients
  • Strong analytical skills to frame a decision in a transparent fashion
  • Capability to move from data gathering to judgment
  • MBA and/or CFA (or CFA candidate) 
  • 5+ years of practical, hands-on investment experience
  • Experience within asset management industry
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Suitable "presence" to represent the Private Bank to clients and industry partners
