The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.
The Legal Department of J.P. Morgan is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) Regulatory Programs team to serve as legal lead for the Firmwide Fiduciary & Conflicts of Interest program and to provide legal support for other significant regulatory-related programs and initiatives in AWM.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead lawyer supporting the Firmwide Fiduciary and Conflicts of Interest Program globally; responsible for ensuring the provision of legal services, internal and external, to the program team and control functions that support the program (e.g., Compliance, Risk);
  • Ensure coordinated legal advice regarding bank fiduciary matters and related regulatory controls and reporting across Asset Management and Wealth Management businesses, and facilitate connectivity with lawyers in other relevant lines of business; manage the Legal Department’s Fiduciary Virtual Practice Group;
  • Serve as Secretary to the Firmwide Fiduciary Risk Governance Committee, which provides oversight of the firmwide governance framework for fiduciary risk, and member of the subcommittee that maintains a firmwide view of fiduciary matters, governs the updates to key reference materials, and advises Compliance on changes to Policy and Standards; 
  • Participate in other Wealth Management and Asset Management fiduciary risk committees;
  • Provide legal advice and support for relevant regulatory exams and inquiries, as well as fiduciary governance matters globally;
  • Provide legal advice and support for other significant regulatory-related programs and initiatives as needed.
Location:   New York
  • JD or educational equivalent required.
  • 12+ years of relevant law firm, financial institution or comparable experience post JD.  
  • Broad experience advising fiduciary businesses, including regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Experience interacting with financial regulators and government entities.
  • Experience coordinating and managing large, complex legal projects. 
  • Experience advising on the development and management of business and control programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and escalate appropriately.
  • Ability to be a collaborative and proactive member of a team.
  • Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to employment.
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
